Taro Hirai (平井太郎, Hirai Taro) is an original character featured in Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan's TV Drama adaptation. He is Kyoka Izumi's boyfriend who became amnesiac after an accident.

Appearance

Taro is a Japanese man with a frail stature and delicate features. He has standard length wavy hair, with one fringe hiding a bit of his forehead. He wears round spectacles.

Taro wears light clothes exclusively, a white shirt over a pale yellow undershirt, and yellow trousers. He wears white sneakers.

Personality

Not much is known about Taro's personality before his accident. He is said to be amnesiac but knows at least his name.

In the present, Taro is a placid amnesiac who exhibits mostly gentleness. He is gentle and serene, but to an abnormal point, and can be seen idling in a park. When interacting with Kyoka, he mostly listens to her and quietly smiles. He seems to appreciate Kyoka's dog and pets him often. He also puts large amounts of sugar in his coffee cup for unknown reasons. It seems that he simply likes his coffee sweet, and drinks canned coffee.

Similar to Mai Katahira's husband, Taro has a mannerism of scratching his head with his pinky finger. He is also shown to have great affinity with Mai's daughter Mao.

History

Background

Taro Hirai was once a world-renowned photographer. However, six years before the events of Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan, he was hit by a car, lost his memory, and stopped his activity. He is Kyoka Izumi's boyfriend.

Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan

Taro is first seen in the "Millionaire Village" episode. Idling in a park, he's called by Kyoka and they go to a café. When Kyoka leaves to go to a mountain village, she puts her dog in his care and says goodbye to him.

Later, he's hit by a car again because of the curse of the gods of the mountain, but thankfully survives along with the dog when Rohan Kishibe makes Ikkyu breach etiquette, forcing the god's side to spare Taro.
