Shigekiyo Yangu ★ Video Games
A summary of Shigekiyo Yangu's history and movesets in video games.
All-Star Battle (PS3)
Shigechi makes his playable debut as the 2nd DLC character to be announced for the game. Despite being one of the mass majority of playable characters in the game with the "Stand" Style, Shigechi cannot turn Harvest on/off, nor does he have access to the Stand Rush ability.
In order to change movesets, Shigechi can switch between Offensive Formation and Defensive Formation, which dictates some of the skills he can use and changes Harvest's combat capabilities. Shigechi has 900 HP.
Command List
During battle, Shigechi can use various attacks that were featured in Diamond is Unbreakable.
Harvest is always on for Shigechi. His total number of Harvest units affect his various skills and their strength and properties. Shigechi can have up to 3 units active at a time.
The more effective the skill is, the more Harvest units are consumed to perform it. All of Shigechi's skills consume Harvest units; His special skills become unavailable with zero Harvest units. If Shigechi attempts to perform a variation of a skill that consumes multiple units while he has an insufficient amount, the next best highest strength variation is chosen automatically.
Shigechi summons a group of Harvests as one unit upon a press of the Style button.
Replacing the normal forward run, Harvest can carry Shigechi both forwards and backwards in a caterpillar track-like fashion (same as the method he used to escape Josuke and Okuyasu). The more Harvest units are currently active, the faster Shigechi will move.
This makes him one of the only four characters in the game capable of running in the opposite direction; the others being Joseph Joestar (both versions), Iggy, and Hol Horse.
Shigechi switches Harvest to Offensive Formation, shifting his available abilities. This action is special-cancelable, allowing him quick access to his skills when switching from Defensive Formation.

Shigechi sends Harvest flying forward as an arcing projectile. The more Harvest units are used, the number of hits is increased and more damage is dealt (Flash Cancel comboable). If three units are used (), the opponent is knocked down.
Shigechi sends Harvest to drop objects on the opponent's head, regardless of range and orientation. If one or two units are used, Harvest drops nuts and bolts on their head, with two units () increasing the number of nuts and bolts for more damage. If three units are used (), two construction pipes will fall instead, bouncing the opponent off the ground. (Comboable)
Shigechi sends Harvest running at the opponent. This is a low attack that cannot be blocked standing, and can strike a downed opponent. The number of hits and damage dealt is increased the more Harvest units are used. (Flash Cancel comboable)
An unblockable command Throw. Shigechi has Harvest leap upwards in a falling arc. If they connect, the large number of Harvests will hold the opponent still as a single one of them attacks their neck, before throwing them away. The more Harvest units are used, the more the range the attack will travel.
Harvest instantly forms a wall in front of Shigechi, completely guarding against non-Throw/HHA/GHA attacks. This move doubles as a reversal, and has a follow-up affected by the number of Harvest units used to erect the guard.
The Harvests making up the wall shoot at the opponent. The attack button inputted during "Don't come any closer!" determines the effect of this skill:
- Light (): The Harvests shoot high, sending the opponent flying a long distance back in a single hit. (Flash Cancel comboable)
- Medium (): The Harvests shoot at a lower angle, hitting the opponent multiple times. (Comboable)
- Heavy (): The Harvests run forward in a low attack that cannot be blocked if the opponent is crouching, sending them flying a long distance back in a single hit. This attack can also strike a downed opponent. (Flash Cancel comboable)
Shigechi sends Harvest running at the opponent, tripping them in a hard knockdown. This is a low attack that cannot be blocked standing, and can also strike a downed opponent. The more Harvest units are used, the less vulnerable Shigechi is during the recovery after the attack is performed. (Flash Cancel comboable)
Shigechi bombards the enemy with a barrage of Harvests rapidly tackling them, sending them flying.
Shigechi points and quickly sends out a large, dense wave of Harvests a long distance forward, sending the opponent flying on impact. This HHA can strike a downed opponent, making it possible for it to be used twice in a row. It also automatically summons three Harvest units for use afterward.
Notably enough, the large number of individual Harvests on-screen can potentially cause the game to lag.
Shigechi calls forth a massive wave of Harvests that rapidly travel a short distance forward. If they connect, the Harvests will cover the opponent from head to toe as they pile on top of them, forming a mound while the opponent cannot be seen at all from underneath the Stand. Each one relentlessly punches into the opponent's skin before they all deliver an uppercut in unison, sending them flying backwards as the individual Harvests scatter.
This GHA automatically summons three Harvest units for use afterward.
Gameplay Overview
Similar to Koichi, Shigechi is a character of small stature, boasting good mobility and strong defensive powers to make himself evasive. In Offensive Formation, he gains access to a projectile that strikes from anywhere and another that hits Low and travels far, along with a command Throw. This offers a noncommittal form of attack from any range, and when combined with his mobility, make it easy to outmaneuver and punish mistakes. In Defensive Formation, Shigechi wields a multipurpose skill that keeps him safe while pressuring his opponent with its follow-up attacks, knocking them away to relieve him from close-ranged danger. He has notable Heart Heat generation, and notably possesses the most skills in the game capable of hitting the opponent while they're down, including his HHA. This opens opportunities for unique combos with lenient finishers, where considerable damage can still be dealt to an opponent who has already hit the ground.
Shigechi's main weakness is his complete reliance on Harvest units to function. As having no Harvest units makes him unable to use any skills, it is imperative he constantly re-summons his Stand at every opportunity to upkeep access to his abilities. His highest-damaging combos require a high level of execution involving narrowly summoning Harvest units in-between attacks. In addition, Shigechi lacks any anti-air attacks as well as any Middle-hitting skills; aside from jumping attacks, his command Throw is his only method of defeating a crouching, guarding opponent, placing focus on his attacks' safety and advantage over actual mix-up techniques.
Overall, Shigechi is an extraordinarily unusual, esoteric combatant. Careful supply of Harvest units keeps his offense, defense, and neutral ability steadfast and flexible. His utilitarian attacks and the his high Heart Heat generation alleviates management of multiple resources, and as a result he aims to battle at midrange and weave around his foe's attacks while waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike.
