Dio's Coffin (ディオの箱, Dio no Hako) is a coffin used by Dio Brando as a shelter on the boat which transported Jonathan Joestar and Erina Pendleton to America, featured in the first and third parts of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Phantom Blood and Stardust Crusaders.

Dio's coffin is reinforced and booby-trapped, carved with his name in golden capital letters. The lock is designed to be unlocked from the inside. The coffin contains a hidden compartment.

The coffin was used by Dio Brando on the ship that transported Jonathan and Erina to America. After the ship was destroyed, the coffin was used by Erina to get to land, after which it sank to the bottom of the Atlantic ocean with Dio inside of the hidden compartment.

History

Phantom Blood

The coffin is first seen carried by four men hired by Wang Chan to transport it to the ship to America, soon to be boarded by Jonathan and Erina on their honeymoon. Speedwagon, rushing to the departing ship, bumps into the coffin, for which the men apologize. One of them begins to wonder why it's so heavy, after which he hears a faint voice from the inside. When he voices his concerns about its content to the group they dismiss it.[1]

After the ship’s departure, Father Styx, a priest traveling to Mexico, drops his rosary through the grate into the cargo hold right on top of the coffin. When he goes down to retrieve it, he examines the coffin and assumes it to be a safe. After noticing that it's locked from the inside, a metal ball above the lock shoots out into his head, killing him instantly. Immediately after that, Wang Chan enters the cargo hold with Jonathan running after him. He opens the coffin to reveal Dio's severed head.
