ゆでたまご先生は高校生のときすでに週刊少年ジャンプ誌にてデビューされていて、つまり高校生なのにプロというわけで、しかも、その時からの作品が『キン肉マン』。当時、デビューしたくて、漫画家を目指していた僕は「うーむ、遊んでる時じゃあないかもな」と、学校の試験中なのに隠れて投稿のための漫画を描いたのが思い出です。そんな『キン肉マン』の超人をデザインできて嬉しいです。本当に29周年おめでとうございます。

I imagined the gods of sports descending on Japan from a sky filled with clouds resembling turbulent waves. The compositional motif was taken from Katsushika Hokusai's print, The Great Wave off the Coast of Kanagawa. Deciding on the color of Mount Fuji was difficult, but I finally settled on a honey color.
荒波のような雲。スポーツの神々が上空から日本へ舞い降りるイメージで描きました。葛飾北斎作《神奈川沖浪裏》の構図をモチーフに、富士山を何色に塗るか悩みましたが、ハチミツ色に塗りました。

While trying to make a perfect copy, I realized once again: while Toriyama-sensei‘s art might look like it was drawn onto a flat surface in a very simple manner, the truth is that it has an extremely precise sense of three-dimensionality to it. An amazing technique that can convey both flatness and three-dimensionality at the same time! It really is great artwork, isn’t it? I am extremely honored that I got to draw the cover to volume 33.
完全模写をめざして描いてみて、改めて思いました。鳥山先生の絵は、シンプルに平面に描いてる様に見えて、実は立体感が、異常に正確。「平面と立体感を同時にやっちゃってる。」という凄いテクニック！やっぱりいい絵だなぁ。33巻を描けて、とても光栄です。

I’m sincerely grateful to everyone who has supported me. The artwork you’re viewing was drawn by Mr. Hirohiko Araki, the author of ‘JoJo's Bizarre Adventure’. Wow, it’s really something, isn’t it? He drew this picture imagining me. When he asked whether I preferred a Japanese style, Western style, or Chinese food—I mean Chinese style (laughs), I suggested perhaps French would be good, and so he drew this for me. That’s how it came to be, and I’m truly delighted, especially considering how busy he is.
It’s such a joy to be celebrated in this way, and in the first part titled ‘OVER THE MOON’, I had the pleasure of performing songs from my first stage appearance and from musicals in which I’ve starred. I think many of the songs felt nostalgic, but there might have been some that felt fresh and new to you. —Mao Daichi

In my way of thinking, a hero is usually drawn as a far-off, idealistic figure. On the other hand, the heroes that Togashi-sensei draws are truly like friends right by your side. Or like a big brother who’s close to you, it’s realistic. I thought, “These are the best characters that I’ve read.” I’m filled with great pride that we were able to write within Shonen Jump during the same period.

絵画というものは、何をどのように描いても自由なものであるとは思いますが。わたしの場合、画面の「構図」を、見てくれる人の心に残るように工夫・努力します。真中よりも画面の端に人物を寄せてみたり、視点を下方向からおあってみたり、人物に普段では行わないポーズをとらせてみたり、そうすると絵に日常ではない、ファンタジー性が生まれてきます。配色も同じ考えで、日常にはないような色と色の組み合わせを考えて塗ったりします。

In my manga, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, there is a kind of supernatural entity called a "Stand." It is a visual personification of its user’s mind or spirit, and stands over its user, protecting them like a kind of guardian angel. My strongest image of Bulgari is of the "serpenti" (snake), with its powers of protection against evil, which is also one of the brand's iconic motifs. On this occasion, I have designed a collection of items for everyday use—including BB Alba bags, wallets, bandana and Shelley, which incorporate the image of Killer Queen, one of the most powerful of all of the "Stands" that I have drawn in my manga.
I would be truly happy if my items would protect the people who carry them, for health and safety, and at times when they have to fight, for love or in their work.私の漫画作品『ジョジョの奇妙な冒険』に『スタンド』と呼ばれるものが登場します。それは心の形を視覚化、キャラクター化したもので、それを持つ者の守護神のような存在でもあります。私が持つブルガリのイメージは、アイコンでもあるセルペンティ（蛇）が持つ『魔除け』です。今回、日常で身につけるアルババッグやウォレット、バンダナ、シェリーなどのアイテムに、私が描いてきた『スタンド』の中でも最強の力を持つものの一つ、『キラークイーン』でデザイン致しました。健康と安全、そして時には愛や仕事のために闘わなくてはいけない時に、それを持つ者を守護するアイテムとして持っていただければ本当に嬉しいです

The Hirohiko Araki JoJo Exhibition: Ripples of Adventure will be held this summer of 2018 at the National Art Center, Tokyo in Roppongi, Tokyo. It is a great honor for me to be able to unveil the culmination of JoJo's 30th anniversary in such a prestigious location. At the same time, I also feel nervous. The essence of what JoJo aims to depict is "spiritual growth" through every phenomenon in the world, and through the battles between good and evil. In this original art exhibition, the idea is for the characters and their guardian spirits to gather together at the same time and place. I am also planning to draw several new pieces for the exhibition. Please look forward to next summer.
