Monster Hunter
Summary
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
On July 21, 2012, Capcom announced a collaboration between the game Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for the Nintendo 3DS and the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series. First promoted in the September 2012 issue of V Jump magazine, the collaboration started on August 10, 2012 and included two free downloadable quests featuring JoJo. By completing these collaboration quests, players could unlock the "Crazy Diamond" hammer, which healed allies by attacking. Along with a mask based off Harvest called the "Stand Mask" that can be equipped to your Shakalaka to constantly gain money. Additionally, players could also download a JoJo-themed Guild Card background and pose to show off their love for the series. The collaboration likely came about due to the release of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate coinciding with the release of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure HD and the 2012 exhibition, which was happening around the same time.
When the items were localized outside of Japan, they were re-skinned and renamed. The "Crazy Diamond" hammer was renamed to the "Majestic Hammer" and had its design changed completely. The "Stand Mask" only received a name change to the "Cosmetic Mask".
Quests
The "Let's Go Hunting!" collaboration quest begun on August 10, 2012 and was given to the player by Shigekiyo Yangu. In the quest, players can obtain Kameyu Stamps needed to craft the "Stand Mask," a special mask based on Harvest that can only be equipped to either Cha-Cha and Kayamba. The quest requires players to hunt two normal and two subspecies of Kulu-Ya-Ku. Each time the player completes the quest they are rewarded with a minimum of 13 Kameyu Stamps. The name of the quest is a reference to the Let's Go Hunting! story arc.
The "Obsidian is Unbreakable" collaboration quest begun on August 17, 2012 and was given to the player by a a young man with a pompadour. The quest requires players to hunt a single Brachydios and is notoriously difficult among Japanese players. The Brachydios in this quest is extremely quick to anger, just like Josuke, and its head shape resembles a pompadour. It could also have been chosen as a reference to Killer Queen due to its explosive attacks. By clearing the quest the player can collect Unbreakable Diamonds, which can be used to craft the "Crazy Diamond" hammer. The hammer has one of the highest attack power in the game, and has a unique effect that allows players to heal a small amount of damage to other players when they attack them. This effect likely references Crazy Diamond's ability to heal things. The name of the quest is also a reference to Diamond is Unbreakable. Additionaly, if you kill 50 Brachydios, you get the title "pompadour" referecing Josuke.
