All-Star Battle ★ Rohan Kishibe
Rohan Kishibe makes his first playable videogame appearance in All-Star Battle. As one of the mass majority of playable characters in the game with the Stand (スタンド, Sutando) Style, Rohan can turn Heaven's Door on/off, changing movesets, as well as having access to the Stand Rush ability returning from the Capcom game, being able to attack in conjunction with his Stand. Rohan has 1000 HP.
Costumes
Rohan's Special Costume A is his attire in TSKR Episode 16, a short story from the spin-off series.
Command List
As Heaven's Door has never been shown engaging in physical combat, most of Rohan's fighting ability makes use of his Stand's power or his own art equipment, featured in Diamond Is Unbreakable.
Exclusive to Rohan is the ability to use "Seals", which lock off certain types of attacks and skills from the opponent for five counts of the battle timer, making them helplessly flinch every time they attempt to use a locked skill and giving Rohan a brief opening to attack. However, if he is hit at all, any lock regardless of their power will be instantly nullified. Rohan may only have one Seal active at a time; Connecting with an already applied Safety Lock refreshes its duration, and other Safety Locks will overwrite existing ones.
Rohan can summon or dismiss Heaven's Door, altering his available abilities.
In place of standard Stand Off normal attacks, Rohan rapidly draws Heaven's Door's silhouette in the air with his finger which lingers for a few seconds. The drawing's completeness is determined by the attack button inputted.
If the opponent touches the drawing, their normal attacks are sealed; The normal attacks sealed corresponds directly to the attack button inputted to produce this move, sealing the opponent's standing, crouching, and jumping versions all at once. Rohan's Safety Locks can also be used on a downed opponent.
However, as the drawings function as projectiles, they do not strike as a low attack when used while crouching, nor strike as a middle attack when used while jumping. Rohan also cannot chain the Safety Locks together via the Chain Beat system as other characters would. (Flash Cancel comboable)
A special ability. If the opponent has successfully taunted Rohan while he's down, the next time he taunts them while they're down in kind will grant him a bonus amount of Heart Heat. During that taunt, Rohan's set voice line will be replaced with him angrily spouting "You dare insult ME, cretin?!"
Rohan quickly flings multiple fountain pen nibs straight-forward as a group of projectiles. The number of pen nibs thrown depends on the attack button inputted. (Flash Cancel comboable)
Rohan, multiple paintbrushes in-between his fingers, swings upward to produce a black stroke in the air, knocking the opponent off their feet and onto the ground. This move functions as a reversal and anti-air, providing Rohan with brief strike-immunity during its start-up. (Flash Cancel comboable)
A command Throw. Rohan steps forward and extends his hand. If he grabs the opponent, he will pick them up by their collar and swiftly write on their face with a paintbrush, before shoving them onto the floor.
This attack seals abilities pertaining to the opponent's Style ();
- Ripple Users cannot use "Ripple Breath", nor enhance their skills.
- Dio Brando cannot use "I'll suck you dry!"; While he technically cannot use "You weakling!" and "MUDA, MUDA, MUDA!" as well, these require preceding attacks to land in order to unleash (at the point where he'd be able to use those skills, the seal would already be nullified by the preceding moves).
- The Pillar Men cannot activate their respective Modes.
- Stand Users cannot summon their Stands.
- Mounted Style Users cannot call for their horses.
A command Throw. After a short delay, Rohan sends Heaven's Door a moderate distance forward with its hand reaching out. If the Stand makes contact with the opponent, it will use its ability to stun them and leave them vulnerable to attack. (Comboable)
Heaven's Door flies forward from Rohan while delivering a flurry of punches. This is a Stand Rush skill that Rohan can disconnect from to freely act while it is executing, and has two follow-up skills. (Flash Cancel comboable)
Heaven's Door follows up by quickly writing into the opponent "I will fly backwards at 70km/h", dealing damage and sending them flying into the stage wall.
Heaven's Door follows up by snatching material out of the opponent, siphoning some of their Heart Heat for Rohan and knocking them down on the spot.
Rohan pushes the opponent off-balance before delivering a swift straight punch that knocks them down as he points at them.
With a swift movement of his hand, Rohan sends Heaven's Door forward to attack. If it hits, Heaven's Door strikes the opponent to turn a section of their face into 'material'. Rohan smiles as he quickly reaches out, rips a page out, and tauntingly guffaws as they fall over.
This HHA seals all of the opponent's special skills, leaving them with just their normal attacks.
Rohan draws Heaven's Door to call it forth and strike, flying a distance forwards. If it hits the opponent, it will knock them onto the ground sitting, before their entire face opens into material. Rohan walks up to the vulnerable opponent and inspects their pages, pulls out a paint brush, and begins writing on the material to generate a safety lock. As the lock completes, it shows that he's written "I cannot attack Rohan Kishibe" on the margin. Rohan finishes the attack by forcefully palming the opponent's face closed and sending them flying.
Despite inflicting the second least amount of damage of all the Great Heat Attacks (behind the GHA of "Kosaku Kawajiri"), Rohan's GHA completely seals all of the opponent's normal attacks, skills, moves, and abilities pertaining to their Style. This means that the opponent is forced to defend themselves for five counts of the battle timer with no possible way to attack or directly damage Rohan.
Gameplay Overview
A highly unusual fighter, Rohan wields his various Seals to limit his opponent's abilities and then exploit mistakes accordingly. If the opponent attempts to initiate an ability that has been Sealed, they are temporarily staggered. His Stand Off abilities involve his Safety Locks that disable normal attacks, a command throw disabling specials, a reversal and anti-air, and a very potent projectile skill. While Heaven's Door is active, he focuses exclusively on dealing damage and performing combos with more orthodox attacks. Rohan innately builds Heart Heat at a rapid rate compared to most, offering more frequent opportunities to utilize HHG-consuming actions and thus letting him maintain good momentum in battle.
However, his damage output is considerably lower than the average fighter, meaning that he needs to win combat interactions more often to succeed. The odd traits of his Safety Locks limit his direct offensive power, as they make for weaker combo tools that deal poor damage and hit-stun. He also has a notable lack of low- and middle-striking specials, and so must rely more heavily on strike/throw mix-up maneuvers to bypass his opponent's guard when attacking. While Rohan's Seals are very powerful assets, they are neutralized by any form of damage no matter how small, making him susceptible to poking attacks and stray hits. His Seals' potency are also dependent on the individual, and can be easily countered with characters that are not as hindered by specific Seals than others.
Overall, Rohan is an advanced combatant that can force his opponent on the defensive with a combination of the right kind of Seals and offense. He wields multiple ranged attacks to pressure his foe from a distance while keeping himself safe. Once he connects with his HHA or especially GHA, he gives himself free reign to switch to a completely aggressive approach against a foe that has little to no means of retaliating.
