Elizabeth I (エリザベスⅠ世, Erizabesu Issei) is a minor character featured in the first part of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, Phantom Blood.
She was the queen of England and a monarch from the Tudor dynasty. In 1565, she battles her first cousin once removed, Mary Stuart, over the throne. Her betrayal of Bruford and Tarkus, two retainers of Mary, leads to the two knights cursing humanity which Dio Brando uses to his advantage over three hundred years later when he revives them as zombies.
Appearance
Elizabeth I has short curly dark hair that is shaved at the top of her forehead and also has no eyebrows. Her attire consists of a long gown with puffy sleeves adorned with various jewelry, along with a large ruff around her neck.
She wears several rings on her fingers. Her crown is also decorated with various rubies, sapphires, emeralds, diamonds, and pearls.
Personality
Elizabeth was a scheming woman and an opportunist who used the situation of Darnley's death to her advantage. She didn't hesitate about lying and murdering her relative, Mary, to ascertain her claim over the throne. As she could not defeat Tarkus and Bruford's armies, she uses deceitful tactics to execute them, such as ordering a woman to act as an impersonator of Mary who remained locked up in a tower, and then giving the two knights an ultimatum that they could turn themselves in for the fake Mary to be freed.[1]
History
In 1565, 315 years before Phantom Blood, Elizabeth and her first cousin once removed, Mary Stuart, start battling over the throne. One day, luck struck when there was a sudden explosion at Mary's home. Mary's husband, Darnley, died but the true cause of his death was unknown to history. Elizabeth took the opportunity to accuse Mary for his death, turning the population against Mary. Nobles from across the land rebelled against her.
Aside from Tarkus and Bruford's armies who won their battles, Elizabeth's army completely destroyed Mary's soldiers. Elizabeth captured Mary and took her prisoner, where she ordered an executioner to behead her. Elizabeth lied to the public promising not to kill Mary, so she used an impersonator who stayed confined to solitude in a tower. With her impersonator, Elizabeth managed to trick Tarkus and Bruford into turning themselves in to free Mary. Tarkus and Bruford obliged, but before their executioner killed them, he pointed to Mary's head on the ground, revealing that he had killed her already.
Angered from Elizabeth's betrayal, Tarkus and Bruford cursed Elizabeth as well as all her future descendants before their deaths.[1]
