The Stone Mask (story arc)
The Stone Mask (石仮面, Ishi Kamen) is the third story arc in Phantom Blood.
Summary
In London, Jonathan walks in the notorious Ogre Street when he is mugged by three men, one of them being Robert E. O. Speedwagon. Jonathan defeats them and befriends Speedwagon who is impressed that Jonathan is a true gentleman. Speedwagon then indicates that the poison Jonathan is investigating is sold by Wang Chen and he points him to the Chineseman's shop. Meanwhile Dio plans to kill Jonathan with the Stone Mask to make it look like accidental. When he tries the Stone Mask on a passerby, the latter transforms into a Vampire and nearly kills Dio, who is saved by the sun. Jonathan, George and Speedwagon confront Dio when he goes back to the mansion, and have him arrested by several police officers. Dio demands that Jonathan cuffs him personally and Jonathan complies. However he suddenly pulls a knife to stab Jonathan; George protects Jonathan and is stabbed in his stead. Dio then puts on the Stone Mask and wipes George's blood on it. The Mask pierces Dio's head before he is seemingly shot down by the policemen.
