All-Star Battle ★ Funny Valentine
Funny Valentine is a playable character in All-Star Battle (PS3). He was the last standard character confirmed for the game, alongside "Kosaku Kawajiri". As a Part 7 character, three parts of the Holy Corpse appear scattered on stages when he, Johnny, and/or Gyro are being played, which they can pick up to receive blessings that boost their performance in combat. Corpse Parts are obtained by crouching while over them.
Valentine is both the only playable antagonist and "Stand" Style fighter in Part 7. He can turn Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap on/off which changes his moveset and lets him use the Stand Rush ability, being able to attack in conjunction with his Stand. Valentine has 900 HP.
Command List
During a fight, Valentine showcases skills and feats he had performed throughout Steel Ball Run.
Valentine can summon or dismiss Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, altering his available abilities.
Valentine receives a new blessing for every Holy Corpse Part he holds, but if successfully knocked down, drops the part and loses said blessing.
- Valentine's Guard Gauge depletes 20% slower, improving his guard.
- Valentine's defense is increased, reducing damage taken by 10%.
- D4C -Love Train- goes into effect. A dimensional wall of light surrounds Valentine. All projectiles except those unleashed through HHA and GHA are completely nullified. His damage reduction is also further increased to 17%, and D4C's attack speed increases, granting his Stand ON skills better combo utility and making his attacks overall more difficult for the opponent to react and respond to. In addition, Valentine gains access to the special ability "Back from the 'other side'".
An exclusive, powerful skill that can only be performed when Valentine holds all three Corpse Parts and has a full three stocks of the Heart Heat Gauge.
Valentine will slowly spin around with a flag in-hand, swapping places with an alternate version of himself from another dimension. This completely and instantly restores his health to full. If Valentine is low on health and has activated "Rumble Mode", then it and its boons will persist into his transition, resulting in him at full health with Rumble Mode engaged.
The drawback of this ability, however, is that Valentine will drop all Corpse Parts and his Heart Heat Gauge will be disabled for the rest of entire match. The three stocks of Heart Heat are also immediately consumed upon attempting this skill regardless if Valentine succeeds or not, rendering it a heavy loss if he is interrupted.
If struck by Kosaku-Kira's GHA, Bites the Dust, after having used this skill successfully, Valentine's HHG will be restored once time has looped backward.
Valentine pulls out a revolver and fires six high-speed bullets straight forward, before tossing the gun away. (Flash Cancel comboable)
Valentine twirls an American flag around himself as another Valentine comes out from behind it in a flying kick, functioning as a short-ranged projectile attack and anti-air. The other Valentine then disappears using his own flag. (Flash Cancel comboable)
Valentine leaps and pulls out a flag to wrap himself and hide in another dimension, attaining complete invulnerability. The direction of his initial jump is determined by the attack button inputted. While in hiding, the flag used will hover loosely above the ground. If the button inputted is held, Valentine will stay in hiding for longer.
This skill can be used to evade all attacks and projectiles completely and can even allow him to retaliate when the opponent is open. However, the skill's lengthy recovery as Valentine returns is such that the opponent can react to and catch him with an attack. (Comboable)
- Light (): Valentine leaps straight upwards.
- Medium (): Valentine leaps forwards, potentially over the opponent.
- Heavy (): Valentine leaps backwards, creating distance.
A counter. Valentine briefly poses. If the opponent strikes him in that moment with a non-Throw/HHA/GHA, Valentine will respond by grabbing them and falling backwards. He alone will phase into the ground, using the opponent as cover to enter an alternate dimension, while they will merely slam into it and take damage. Valentine returns while they are on the ground, left knocked down and in front of him.
D4C unleashes a combo of chopping strikes while moving a distance forwards, knocking the opponent down on the final hit. (Flash Cancel comboable)
If Valentine has all three Corpse Parts, D4C is invulnerable during this skill's start-up period, allowing the attack to function as a reversal.
D4C unleashes a quick downwards chop after moving forward. Depending on the attack button inputted, various follow-up strikes are then performed. A Stand Rush skill that Valentine can disconnect from to freely act while it is executing. (Flash Cancel comboable)
- Light (): D4C delivers only the initial chop, shortening the skill's recovery.
- Medium (): D4C follows up with an overhead chop that cannot be blocked crouching, knocking the opponent down.
- Heavy (): D4C follows up with a low kick that cannot be blocked standing, pushing the opponent backwards.
If Valentine has all three Corpse Parts, this skill executes faster, mitigating the delay in-between the two possible follow-up strikes enough to make the entire attack truly combo.
Valentine pulls out a flag with a twirl and tosses it into the air before D4C punches it into the ground, laying it flat. This move functions as an anti-air. If the opponent is caught, they are sent into another dimension as Menger Sponges spew out from under the flag, and then sent flying out from under.
If Valentine has all three Corpse Parts, the attack becomes a middle attack that can only be blocked standing. This skill also executes faster, making it possible to now combo into the attack.
D4C throws the opponent high into the air with one hand and jabs them in the torso with the other as they fall, throwing them away and onto the ground afterward.
A counter. Valentine and D4C openly present themselves to the opponent with a shrug. If the opponent's non-Throw/GHA connects, Valentine will slam them into the ground as he uses them as cover to disappear. He will return from the ground with two extra Valentines as the three proceed to beat the downed opponent. D4C finally throws the opponent into the air and in unison, all three Valentines uppercut and send them flying. The two extra Valentines then return to their dimensions.
Valentine pulls out a large flag and blankets it forward as he declares the attack something the opponent should be honored to receive. This attack is unblockable, and if the opponent is caught, they are draped over by the flag (an image reminiscent of a military funeral ceremony) and Valentine jumps under in pursuit shortly afterward. The two are pulled into a parallel dimension, interrupting the battle between alternate universe versions of themselves as the camera view is upside-down. Valentine poses with his welcoming doppelganger as the camera reorients itself, while the opponent is forcibly pulled into and slams into their counterpart, resulting in them violently disintegrating into a shower of Menger Sponges as per the rules of D4C.
Gameplay Overview
Valentine is a cunning fighter who utilizes an unorthodox set of abilities to trick his opponents. His abilities in Stand Off focus primarily on an array of various diverse skills, ranging from multiple projectiles, a counter, and an evasive move, potentially making it hard to predict his next action and create a neutral-focused playstyle. While D4C is active, he shifts entirely toward the Stand's close-quarters offense with various striking attacks and mix-up specials that lead to considerably damaging combos. As he switches between the two sets of skills, Valentine achieves great utility. More importantly, he arguably benefits the most from collecting Holy Corpse Parts of any Part 7 character, gaining increased defense and eventually developing Love Train, which passively protects him from most projectiles and enhances his Stand On skills.
Though his moves are considered versatile, it is just as easy to view them as situational as well, mainly his Stand Off skills. When D4C is inactive, Valentine becomes much less effective and focuses on neutral and defense, partly due to the linearity and awkward application of his skills; If his opponent can force him to remain in Stand Off, it becomes very difficult for him to repel high aggression and rushdown types, which in turn prevents him from retaining Corpse Parts that bolster his defense.
Nonetheless, Valentine is an advanced character who benefits greatly from creative application of his diverse powers, pressuring and prodding at the opponent from afar until he can seize the chance to assault them with D4C's tricky melee. Once Love Train is active, he can more readily shift to a bolder, offensive style of play as he possesses innate protection, ultimately leading him to becoming a nigh-uncontestable force.
