Dio Brando the Invader (story arc)
Dio Brando the Invader (侵略者ディオ・ブランドー, Shinryakusha Dio Burandō) is the first story arc in Phantom Blood.
Summary
After Dio is welcomed by the Joestars, he proceed to bully Jonathan behind George's back and ruin his life. Dio first ruins his reputation among the local children by humiliating him in a boxing match and spreading rumours about Jonathan being a snitch, which isolates the boy from his peers. Nonetheless Jonathan finds solace in his friendship with his dog Danny and later in his burgeoning romance with Erina Pendleton. Dio sees that Jonathan engraved his name with that of Erina and confronts Erina. He forcefully steals her first kiss to embarass her so deeply that she won't meet Jonathan again. When Jonathan greets Erina some time later, she flees and Dio's croonies mockingly reveal what Dio did to Erina. Jonathan rushes to the mansion to fight Dio and manages with difficulty to beat himon the ground, motivated by his affection for Erina. Dio's blood splatters the walls and triggers the Stone Mask, which sprouts its prongs; that strange phenomenon is seen by Jonathan. Humiliated, Dio takes out a knife to stab Jonathan but George interrupts the fight, sending both to their rooms. The damage is still done, and Jonathan's relationship with Erina is broken; moreover Danny dies, unwittingly burnt by the butler though Jonathan knows Dio enabled that. For his part, Dio promises to himself to stop underestimating Jonathan. Seven years pass.
