Isn't it kinda funny there's coattail and then cocktail? (コートテールがあって、その後にカクテルがあるって、ちょっと滑稽(こっけい)と思いませんか?)

Current Goal

I am having so much fun learning the secrets of Araki and JoJo as a whole (and the insane amount of original storylines that were cut), so I'm translating random interviews that I feel in the spur of the moment! My two big goals are the JOJOVELLER editor interviews and the JOJO Magazine interviews! Wish me luck!

👻 I shall waste my life away looking through Japanese auction sites for hours just to find blurry pictures of magazine chapter covers and their original taglines 🫡 why do I do this to myself 👻

And if I notice any minor issues and know how to code them properly, I shall

(P.S. Currently working at Target, so if I'm not posting for a while it's probably because I'm working long ass hours)

Magazine Oddities

Whenever anything gets retconned, whether it be major or minor, it always gets my attention (shoutout to Josefumi losing his birthmark!). So, with my fascination of looking through the original magazine chapters, I want to detail some oddities or retcons that I find!

The final page of Chapter 24

This page seems to show an alternate title for Chapter 25 that was later scrapped! At least, I think that's what it's saying at the bottom of the page? I found the image on Mercari, so I have to just go off of what I can see.

It seems that at the bottom of the final page, it talks about how the next chapter will be in WSJ Issue 27, then says it'll be a showdown between JoJo VS. Dio (after VS., you can see what looks to be "ディ" which is the beginning of Dio's first name), then it SEEMS to detail the chapter title being something along the lines of "Open The Gates Of Hell."

I can tell this is almost certainly the original chapter title because it is written as "『地獄の門を開けろ』の巻." Every chapter from 1 to around 290, Araki indicated what the chapter title was by ending each title with "の巻" which literally translates to "Chapter." I think he did this because he used to add a TON of taglines, so this was his way of separating the chapter title from the taglines.

Since this title has "の巻" at the end of it, and using context clues of him referencing what would happen in the next issue, it seems that this is the original chapter title! One week later, it was changed to The Mask's Blood-Chilling Power (血も凍る仮面(パワー), Chi mo Kōru Kamen Pawā). Y'all can debate which you like better lol.

In Summary:

Final Page Tagline: Fighting Is Our Destiny (戦いが宿命, Tatakai Ga Shukumei)

Chapter 25 Potential Alternate Title: Open The Gates Of Hell (地獄の門を開けろ, Jigoku No Mon O Akero)

Steel-filled Dan

They fucking misspelled Steely Dan's name and it keeps making me laugh WHY DO I FIND THIS SO FUNNY???

Incorrectly spelled Steely Dan's name, so this was corrected by adding the missing hiragana character "り".

My Contribs For Volume Differences

The third page of Chapter 571

A couple minor edits, but nonetheless it should still be documented!

Replaced "2m" in the first text box with the full katakana word for "meter," then the second text box replaced the hiragana word for "what" to the kanji of the same word.

The second & third page of Chapter 165

Once again, just minor edits (including spelling Steely Dan's name wrong lol), but still good to archive!

Replaced the phrase "起こっている" by removing the hiragana character "こ" from it. Both phrases still translate to the word "happening," so this is just a different style of writing that out.

Magazine Cover Sources

Currently going through an arc of endlessly scrolling through random Japanese sites for the slim chance of finding semi-decent quality photos of JoJo chapter covers with their original tagline. Here is what I have found so far!

Mag Tags

7th photo. Chapter 438 Magazine Cover 9th photo. Chapter 438 Page 2-3 Tagline

12th photo Chapter 144 Magazine Cover

  • Chapter 126 Bit close up and wonky, but at least the full tagline is visible!

16th photo Chapter 126 Magazine Cover

  • Chapter 571 No tagline I found 3 separate fucking auctions for this magazine and NONE showed the page before this that probably has the tagline. One day I shall spend all my money on old Shonen Jump mags just to preserve this shit.

9th photo Chapter 571 Magazine Cover

  • Chapter 170 You can count many pixels in the first pic and I'm sorry 'bout that, but I legit cannot find another. Second pic is pretty badass tho

  • Chapter 165 technically not a cover but very very close. It has a tagline tho so it's important!!

Some of the author's notes for Part 4 seem to be misplaced, so I will help fix them!

I am VERY passionate about explaining my reasoning for any changes. Here, I will show specific author's notes contradict those on the wiki, along with screenshots and links to the correct notes.
