The outlaw man (アウトロー・マン, Autorō Man) is the unnamed protagonist of the one-shot Outlaw Man.
He is a criminal on the run from Pinkerton's agents. Throughout his escape, he rides a horse named Cameron.
Appearance
The outlaw is a man of slim build with dark hair and dark eyes. He is dressed in typical cowboy fashion, consisting of a hat, boots and a holster for his revolver. Due to a prior engagement, he has a wound on his right hand.
Personality
The lone outlaw is a perceptive individual, but desperate to cover up his tracks and escape the Pinkerton detectives. Little of his personality is conveyed but the outlaw appears to be a typical cowboy, quick-witted and quick on the draw. He demonstrates resourcefulness and strategic ingenuity, such as using a rabbit to trick his pursuers. He is also perceptive, being able to tell if an ambush is being planned out, and notice the glint of a rifle from a distance. Despite his callous exterior he cares about his horse, Cameron, and puts it down after a near fatal attack.
It is mentioned that he has no goals, other than to escape, and nothing to gain.[2]
Abilities
Marksmanship
The outlaw is an excellent marksman, as he uses ricocheting to his advantage to shoot the detectives. He wields a .45 caliber gun.[2]
History
Background
The protagonist is a runaway outlaw during America's pioneering era with a bounty on his head for an unknown crime. Wherever he goes his pursuers follow and he struggles to erase his tracks.[2]
Outlaw Man
The outlaw is pursued by Pinkerton detectives after a bounty is stamped on him. He rides on his beloved horse, Cameron, through the desert, injured in his right hand from a previous encounter with them.
The protagonist finds a man hanging from a tree. He notices the man's hands behind his back, indicating that he's hiding a revolver. The protagonist also notes that there is only one set of footprints on the ground around the hanged man, when there would be more footprints around if the man really was hanged. As soon as the outlaw immediately concludes that this is an ambush, the hanged man opens his eyes, but the outlaw is quick to the draw and escapes.
Although the protagonist manages to escape without leaving any footprints on the ground and travels through the river as to not leave any scent behind, the detective agency manages to find a small trace of his escape and persistently chases after him. The protagonist realizes a sniper is after him when he catches a glimpse of a scope's glint on top of a cliff. Cameron is eventually shot by the detectives, in an attempt to kill the outlaw. The outlaw puts Cameron out of its misery and flees.
Just as it seems the detectives caught the outlaw, the outlaw tricks them by making them think a rabbit in a bush was him. He shoots the rocks behind the ones the detectives are hiding behind, ricocheting the bullets back at them and hitting all of them. He then walks away, injured and limping.[2]
