Daiya Higashikata is a minor antagonist of Part VIII: Jojolion, but later becomes an ally to the protagonist.

Appearance/Personality

Despite her blindness, Daiya is self-assured and self-reliant. She refuses to be treated special for others. Her most obvious feature is her infatuation with Josuke, becoming possessive of him and threatening him should he ever do something she doesn't want. This is shown with her stealing his memories, becoming angry when Yasuho called him. After Josuke defeats her Stand she becomes much more friendly and submissive towards him. In spite of her borderline psychotic tendencies she does seem to legitimately like Josuke.

She has an odd fashion style, wearing a bear-like hood. She appears to share some design traits, such as her hair, with Bruno Buccellati.

Synopsis

Daiya Higashikata is the second daughter and youngest child of Norisuke Higashikata IV's family. She is a big fan of progressive rock, especially the band "Yes". At her first encounter with Josuke, she questions him if he likes the Misty Mellotron, an electronic instrument. When her father asks Josuke to look after her, she refuses to be treated in a special way for being blind, saying that he should act natural.

She uses her stand on the Josuke in order to take advantage of him via seduction and almost succeeds until she finds herself standing on his shadow (which reverses the memory taking abilities of her stand).

Despite her mischief, Josuke uses her to go into the secret room that Yasuho Hirose was banned from only to come across a book of the family tree which connects Yoshikage Kira of the Joestar family as a distant relative to the Higashikata family.

Trivia

  • Daiya is a Polish name that means "present". In Japanese, it is phonetic shorthand for "diamond", keeping with the "card" naming theme of the Higashikata girls.
  • Daiya's character type can be classified as "yandere."
  • Similar to the song that her stand refers to, she is in love with the Jojolion Protagonist and even attempts to have sex with him using her stand's powers.
  • Daiya's extreme love for the protagonist, combined with her namesake and her relationship with her father, may be a reference to Crazy Diamond, the stand of the Part IV protagonist. Of note is that Crazy Diamond features heart-shaped motifs.
  • When riding a bicycle she made a reference to the Real World British Rock Band "Queen" and its single Bicycle Race.
    • Curiously, Yoshikage Kira from Diamond is Unbreakable had the Stand "Killer Queen" with the secondary ability of "Sheer Heart Attack", which later gained the ability Another One Bites the Dust. All Queen references. Araki likely intended the song, and the fact Josuke didn't know it.
      • As a secondary reference to the real world, the line from "Bicycle Race" that she quoted (albeit wrongly) was meant to go: "Jaws was never my scene and I don't like Star Wars."
