Fire and Ice, Jonathan and Dio (4) (炎と氷 ジョナサンとディオ その④, Faiyā Ando Aisu Jonasan to Dio Sono 4), originally Prelude to the Storm (恐嵐への序曲, Kyōran e no Jokyoku) in the WSJ release, is the forty-second chapter of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga. It is also the forty-second chapter of Phantom Blood.

Summary

When the boat is out at sea, Erina looks out to the ocean and sees a bird flying onto the railing of the ship. The single bird has separated from its flock and calls out; it is answered shortly by the appearance of another bird that broke away from the rest. Erina becomes emotional and runs over to hug Jonathan. Confused at first, Jonathan asks why she is distressed, but realizes they were merely tears of joy. The two decide to get something to eat and start heading down to the lower decks, but not before Jonathan hits his head on the doorframe.

At dinner, Jonathan encourages Erina to drink some wine, but she refuses because she never had alcohol before. Slightly nervous at the prospect of drinking, Erina takes a sip and blushes afterward. Before Jonathan could react, he suddenly spots Wang Chan from across the room and tells Erina to return back to their room and lock the door. Jonathan then follows Wang Chan out of the dining room, worried that Dio could still be alive.

Elsewhere, a Missionary Priest, Father Styx, is drinking alcohol and drops his crucifix into a metal grate nearby. He looks inside and, noticing that it connects with the ship's hold, makes his way downstairs. He spots the cross on the same ornate box the men were taking into the ship earlier. Upon taking a closer look, he realizes that although the lock is undone, there is a latch that could only be locked from the inside. Styx is killed a moment later when the second lock triggers and a gem flies into his head, causing his head to explode.

Wang Chan runs into the room followed closely by Jonathan and throws open the coffin, revealing Dio's head. Dio reveals his intention is to kill Jonathan and take his body for himself. Just as Erina enters the room, Dio fires the Space Ripper Stingy Eyes at Jonathan.
