Ripple Overdrive (波紋疾走(ハモン・オーバードライブ), Hamon Ōbādoraibu) is the sixth story arc in Phantom Blood.

Summary

After Jack the Ripper escapes in the tunnels, Zeppeli hands Jonathan a cup full of wine. Zeppeli tells Jonathan to follow the zombie and that he will abandon him, win or lose, should he spill the wine. Zeppeli than leaves Jonathan parting words that "The Northern Wind made the Vikings", which his hard understood as shaping himself through hardships. Joseph enters the passage and finds himself in a maze of tunnels. Forced to move in the dark to in an attempt to hide position from Jack, Jonathan realizes he use it as a Ripple detector to find his quarry. Jonathan realizes Jack is waiting for him on the other side of the corner he was about to walk through, using a Ripple Overdrive to bypass the wall and destroy the zombie. Hearing the zombie's death cry, Zeppeli remarks that Jonathan must have figured out what the wine was for and been finely shaped by the "North Wind".

The trio subsequently reaches Windknight's Lot, Jonathan looking around while Speedwagon asks Zeppeli to teach him to use Ripple despite being told he lacks the skills and aptitude to utilize it. Jonathan turns around to see Speedwagon doubled over in pain as Zeppeli explained that strike Speedwagon's diaphragm in an attempt to allow him to generate a small amount of Ripple. Without warning, Jonathan's group finds steals their bag swiped by a farm boy who uses a slingshot to shoot himself across a nearby lake. Zeppeli proposes that they follow the child to the village as he and Jonathan walk across the lake after the boy who starts climbing up the cliff face. Once reaching the base of the cliff, Jonathan uses hits the rock surface with ripple punch to knock the boy off and catch him. Once Jonathan caught the boy Poco, who has no recollection of what he did, Zeppeli realized someone hypnotized the boy to lure them to a graveyard as the sun sets. As night falls, Jonathan and his group are surrounded by zombies before seeing Dio above them.

Jonathan and Speedwagon manage to fend off the zombie hoard while Zeppeli confronts Dio, demanding how many people he killed to restore his previous burnt body with the vampire answering cynically with "how many loaves of bread have you eaten in your lifetime?". This infuriates Zepelli as he jumps into the air and attempts to destroy Dio with a Sunlight Yellow Overdrive. However, Dio has developed a freezing technique which flash-freezes Zeppeli's arm while blocking the flow of Ripple energy through the frozen limb. Dio prepares to crush Zeppeli's head with a punch, but Jonathan intervenes and blocks Dio's attack. But with Dio proving himself too much for two Ripple users, he summons his two strongest zombies into battle: Bruford and Tarkus.
