Tarkus and the Dark Knight Bruford (2) (タルカスと黒騎士ブラフォード その②, Tarukasu to Kurokishi Burafōdo Sono 2), originally Vengeance Demon from the Past (過去からの復讐鬼, Kako kara no Fukushūki) in the WSJ release, is the twenty-seventh chapter of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga. It is also the twenty-seventh chapter of Phantom Blood.

Summary

Jonathan tries to send Ripple through Bruford's hair, but to no avail. Bruford is draining Jonathan's blood with his hair; consequently, Jonathan cannot use the Ripple. Tarkus draws a mighty sword, threatening Jonathan with it. It is then that Dio begins to explain the story of Tarkus and Bruford.

In 1595, two potential queens fought for the throne of England. One was Elizabeth I, the other was Mary Stuart. Both queens were of the Tudor dynasty. Tarkus was a knight of great strength, and was famous for his large sword; while Bruford was known for having attacked enemies by surprise after swimming through a lake while wearing his armor. Both had an upbringing as knights with no families, and trained their bodies to perfection. Eventually, the two of them pledged their allegiance to Mary, and swore to make her queen. Tragedy then befell Mary, as her husband Darnley Stuart died of unknown causes. Elizabeth blamed Mary for killing her own husband, causing the nobles to revolt against her. She eventually became imprisoned in a tower.

Elizabeth then struck a deal with Tarkus and Bruford. If they surrendered, Elizabeth would spare Mary's life. They agreed, and just before they were executed, the executioner told them that it is not Mary in the tower, and the real Mary is dead. Tarkus and Bruford were then killed. In the present day, Dio has turned them into demons of vengeance to use for his own sinister goals.

Having his arm trapped by Bruford's hair, Jonathan then gathers Ripple energy in his left hand and punches his right arm with it. Because of his Scarlet Overdrive, Bruford's hair disintegrates off of Jonathan's arm, freeing him.
