Production

Phantom Blood was written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki, serliazing from So and So date to So and So date. Starring Jonathan Joestar as its main character as he grows through a perilous period of his life. Phantom Blood was the beginning of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series and has been adapted into anime, film and a video-game. (Need details about success like sales, awards or something)

The idea behind Phantom Blood is Araki's exploration of good and evil. The dynamic between Dio, and Jonathan, as Araki describes, represents "good and evil, white and black." This dynamic made them both "function as symbols and foils to one another". Jonathan being a pure, diginfied, symbol of justice and Dio as the ambitious, ultimate evil within the story. Araki also explores a reoccuring theme within the series itself, regarding ultimate power and who controls it. Phantom Blood was the first part of Araki's planned idea for a multi-generational story.

Araki's artstyle during this period, was inspired by the popularity of muscular heroes at the time, and Italian sculptures that Araki took a liking to during one of his trips.
