When was the harvest date for the new Rokakaka?
JoJolion has used the date for the new Rokakaka's harvest as a time reference to give a sense of distress towards impending obstacles, such as "5 days until the harvest"[1] and "13 minutes until harvest"[2] but the true day of the harvest is never specified. Despite this, there may be just enough information given throughout the part to deduce the exact date.
The Year
- Joshu is stated to be 18 years old and born in 1992[3] so the entirety of JoJolion (excluding flashbacks) takes place in either 2010 or 2011. If the story extended to 2012, Joshu's age would have been updated to 19.
The Day
- Norisuke is reading a newspaper that states the incident at the hopsital (the man Josuke accidently kills in the pursuit of Satoru Akefu) occured on the 19th.[4]
- Josuke kills that man with 6 days left until the harvest.[1]
- Counting backwards, that would put the day of the harvest on the 25th.
The Month
- The Earthquake that caused the Wall Eyes to emerge, hit Morioh on March 11, 2011[5], wilting the Rokakaka and alerting the Damokan group that their Rokakaka was grafted and stolen.[6]
- It took 6 months for the Damokan group to realize the Rokakaka was stolen[6] so Josefumi and Kira stole the Rokakaka on October (3), 2010.
- Damo confronts Josefumi and Kira 10 months and 16 days after the theft operation[6], placing the confrontation on August 19, 2011.
- Yagiyama explains that aftershocks occured on the same day that Josefumi and Kira merged.[7], separate from the earthquake in March.
- Damo goes to the Higashikata house and is killed 6 months after the earthquake that hit Morioh.[8]
- If Damo was referring to the aftershocks, he would have died in February 2012. The story of JoJolion must stay within 2011 so this is impossible.
- Therefore, Damo is referring to the March earthquake, which would mean he died in September 2011. Therefore, the events of the Vitamin C arc and onward occur somewhere between September 2011 and December 2011.
- Atsunori Iwakiri is stated to be making 600 million yen for the current season.[9] The 2011 Nippon Professional Baseball season went from April 12th to November 20th and we know JoJolion takes place in the season. The harvest occurs on the 25th so that eliminates November and December.
- Therefore, the harvest either occurs on September 25, 2011 or October 25, 2011. Furthermore, they haven’t stated that 7 months or 8 months or 9 months have gone by. Only 6 months have gone by since the earthquake, placing the events within September 2011.
- Therefore, the new Rokakaka harvest was on September 25, 2011.
Missing song references
The vast majority of Stands following Part 4 have been named after or at least made a reference to Western music. My personal favorite is The Hand named after a band called The Band. The only Stand to have been named after Japanese music was Chocolate Disco and some other Stands have ambigious origins. How many racers died in the Steel Ball Run race?
Quick calculation of how many people died from the nine stages of the race in total. Obviously does not count the thousands of racers who dropped out or retired. If not specifically stated that a racer died, it is assumed they dropped out. In the case that a racer drops out and is later killed, that also doesn't count. This happens to Hot Pants and Mountain Tim.
- Stage 1
The Boomboom family killed three men during the first stage, poor guys.[11] (3)
- Stage 2
Apparently 82 people died during the second stage[12], only named one is Benjamin Boomboom.[13] (85)
- Stage 3
No known deaths. (85)
- Stage 4
Gaucho is killed by Ringo in the fourth stage, no other known deaths.[14] (86)
- Stage 5
Two deaths here from the fight with Sandman. First, Dot Han is used as a bomb and gets destroyed.[15] A little later Sandman himself bites the dust.[16] (88)
- Stage 6 & 7
No known deaths. (88)
- Stage 8
Diego Brando and Gyro Zeppeli are killed by Funny Valentine during the penultimate stage.[17][18] (90)
- Stage 9
No known deaths (AU Diego died after the race ended). (90)
