Famicom Jump: Hero Retsuden
Joseph makes his gaming debut as playable character on the NES title, as a young man (Circa Part II), along with other Jump Heroes (such as Goku from Dragonball, Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star and Seiya from Saint Seiya).
Famicom Jump II: Saikyo no Shichinin
Joseph returns as a old man (Circa Part III) on the sequel, however he's not playable this time (Jotaro is the representative hero from JJBA franchise).
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (SNES)
Joseph travels with Jotaro, Kakyoin, Polnareff, Avdol, & Iggy to terminate DIO.
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Heritage for the Future
Joseph is a playable character on the fighting game created by Capcom. Joseph uses both his stand and hamon as part of his moveset, such as the Overdrive. Most of Joseph's moves allows him to use Hermit Purple to grab the opponent from a far distance and transfer his hamon over it to hit the enemy. Joseph's classic run away appears as his backfoward running, his special move it's an uppercut that goes into an hamon combo punch like (where Joseph screams Lisa Lisa's name) and his other special move Joseph's grab the opponent with Hermit Purple and transfer all of his hamon on energy form to damage the opponent. Hermit purple also works as an counter attack (much like he did against Dio on the final battle of Part III).
Joseph also has his appareance from PART II as a playable character (simply called as "JOJO"), on this form, Joseph's main attack it's his Cracker Volleys, where he uses it as a nuchakos and boomerangs. His first special move it's the same of his PART III appareance (but instead of Lisa Lisa he screams Caesar's name), and his other special move he uses the Aja Stone, by charging it with his hamon the stone will shoot an powerful hamon wave (much like Cars and Lisa Lisa did it on the events of PART III), "JOJO" can also use the beast to shoot an iron ball across the screen to hit the enemy from the other side and shoots the Coke's cover as a projectile.
Jump Super Stars
Joseph appears as Jotaro's 3-block support koma. He uses Hermit Purple to draw an enemy toward you, creating a great chance to attack the enemy.
Jump Ultimate Stars
Althought he's not playable he can be used as an support and help character in the game. In his 2-koma support, Joseph PART II uses his special ability to predict the opponents line,inflicting paralysis effect on the enemy and in his 3-koma support, now in his PART III form, he uses his stand Hermit Purple to grab the opponent and brigging him near the player. His help koma gives the character the ability to see invisible characters. He has ally boosts with Yoh from Shaman King and Franky from One Piece.
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure All-Star Battle (PS3 Game)
Joseph was one of the first confirmed characters to be on the game (along with Jotaro, Wham and Gyro). Unlike the Capcom game, this time PART II's Joseph has a more vesatile moveset. He can use his Cracker Volleys to make combos on the enemy and be throwed as a boomerang, use the Hammer filled with hamon to make a bounce hit on the enemy, uses his "Your next line it's gonna be..." as a counter attack (he can do that with every character on the game), his Reboot Overdrive as an uppercut and uses the hamon to fill his special gague (ability exclusive to the hamon uses on the game). His HHA makes him using the Machine Gun to shoot the enemy and even throws the opponent to the air and hit him with a transfered hamon energy (much like the did to Straizo) and his GHA being a combo with the Cracker Volleys.
His PART III also appears on the game as a DLC. "Old Joseph" still uses most of his movest from the previous fighting game, such as the hamon attacks and Hermit Purple long-range grabs, his trully new move it's the Oil Tank, where he uses Hermit Purple to get an oil tank outside the screen, smashing it on the floor to make the enemy slipers for a short time, giving Old Joseph a chance to attack. His HHA it's a counter attack, where if Joseph is hit, he will uses the Hermit Purple to punch the enemy with a hamon punch (the same way he did to the photographic camera on the begining of PART III events) and his GHA makes him using Hermit Purple to trap the enemy and grabs him near Joseph for him to use his Hamon Overdrive.
Trivia
- A minor point of controversy is the spelling of Joseph's name. Both in an official profile and on his tombstone during Part 2, his name is spelled "Josef Joestar" in plain English, while in part 3 his name is given as "Joseph". One explanation for this could be that Joseph naturalized his name to appear more American at some point (many immigrants after both World Wars did this in real life).
- In the 2012 anime, the name on his tombstone was Joseph Joestar despite it being Josef in the manga.
- His catchphrases are "Oh! NO!" (used in part 2) and "Oh! My! God!" (used often in Part 3). Sometimes, this will alternate with "My God!" or other such variations.
- A running gag in Part 3 has Joseph lose parts of his prosthetic hands when the enemies attack him, but later he appears with it intact without any explanation. He probably asked the Speedwagon Foundation for a new one each time an enemy cut the one he currently had.
- He has survived four plane crashes (two in Part II and two in Part III).
- He shares the same birthday with Part 5's Bruno Buccellati.
- Joseph has appeared in 3 story arcs, tying with Dio for second place in most appearances, and behind Jotaro who's appeared in 4 story arcs.
- Joseph's personality and hairstyle may have influenced the detective manga Kindaichi Case Files, as both protagonists incorporate tricks to confuse their enemies.
- Joseph is the only person to be able to use both hamon and a stand of his own - though he makes little use of his Hamon power after obtaining his stand. Even when he did use his Hamon power, it rarely did him any good, especially when fighting The Empress and Dio, as neither was affected by his Hamon attacks, although the Hamon was able to temporarily shield him from Dio.
- His younger self is an unlockable character in the Capcom arcade game JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Heritage for the Future, being the only character to not be from Part 3. If his younger self is affected by Alessi's stand in the arcade game, he becomes a much younger Joseph from a flashback scene in Part 2, and is seen holding a Superman comic.
- During the hijacking of Speedwagon's plane, in the manga Joseph is reading a Superman comic. Possibly due to potential licensing issues with DC Comics, in the anime adaptation Joseph is seen reading the manga Baoh, one of Hirohiko Araki's earlier works.
- It's interesting to note that the first Superman issue came in 1938, the same year Part 2 takes place. So possibly due to a timing mistake, it was changed in the anime.
- Joseph, out of all the JoJos, had lived the longest life to date (September 27,1920-). With living up to his early 90's he outlived all the others by at least 50 years, especially since the members in the Joestar family are notorious for living very short lives (ex. Jonathan - 20, Jotaro - 40, Jolyne - 19, Johnny - 29).
- The character Dandy J from the Neo Geo fighting game Waku Waku 7 heavily resembles Joseph's part 3 incarnation, although he uses a whip similar to Indiana Jones.
- By the end of Stone Ocean Joseph is one of three JoJo's who was not killed prior to Made In Heaven's universal reset. The other two being his son & Giorno, but It is assumed that Pucci indirectly killed them as well.
- Joseph, Josuke, Jonathan and Giorno, are the only Jojo protagonists to completly lose the battles they faced were in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure All-Star Battle League.
