Fire and Ice (Fire and Ice, Jonathan and Dio - Part 2 in the JoJonium release) is the fortieth chapter of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga. It is also the forty chapter of Part I: Phantom Blood.

Summary

With Dio holding onto his carotid artery, Jonathan is grounded. He attempts a knee strike, but Dio retaliates with his own knee, and in the process freezes both of Jonathan's legs. Speedwagon tries to help, but Dio's zombies surround the heroes and keeps them at bay. While still holding onto Jonathan's artery, Dio proceeds to insert his vampire extract. He's stopped short, however, as Jonathan reveals the tip of his sword, which had been frozen in Dio was partly in a torch nearby, and was slowly melting the ice. Jonathan mentions that it was due to Dio's mistake of not having completely frozen him that he was able to free himself.

Dio panics and shatters the sword, freeing Jonathan and allowing him to follow with a Sunlight Yellow Overdrive. The strike connects with Dio's face, but is instantly frozen as soon as it touches. Dio releases blood vessels which grab his decapitated arm and fuses it back in place. He pushes his face back together, and launches himself at Jonathan. Jonathan launches forward, spins around and ignites his own fist on fire from a nearby torch. He places both fists together and with them aflame, strikes at Dio. Dio blocks the double punch momentarily, but the strike eventually pushes through and straight into Dio's chest. Jonathan's ripple infused fists go straight through Dio, completely impaling him.
