How I Got Into JoJo
There were many times in my life that first introduced me to JoJo that I never realized until after getting into it but two I can remember specifically was once in 2015 at Volleyball practice back in middle school when I saw Senile Snakes “Fall off your Horse” animation and remember thinking it was really funny and wondering where the audio/media was from but then totally forgetting about it until weeks later and then never being able to find the video again. Another time was in 2017 there was this meme page I used to follow on Instagram that posted Iggy's OVA death scene and it traumatized me for a good couple of weeks. Eventually sometime in mid-2018 though I saw the clip of Josuke getting shot by a piece of paper from the part 4 anime and thought that was the funniest thing in the world. It used to make me cry laughing every time I saw it and eventually, I just went “I’ve got to watch this anime.”
I remember watching the first 3 episodes and then dropping it immediately after. I thought it was super boring and not funny at all. After about a three-month break I decided to give it a second chance after the news of part 5 getting an anime and really wanting to get to that paper scene. So one night I sat down and binged a ton of episodes. I was still not all that interested and was about to go to bed but I decided to watch one more episode after wanting to know what was going to happen to the story now that Dio was dead. And I’m so glad I did because episode 9 ruined me. Jonathan's death caught me so off guard and his last moments with Erina had me in tears. I was so shocked by part 1’s ending that I just had to know what was going to happen next so I stayed up for another couple hours binging part 2.
I finished part 2 the following night and knew from the moment I met Joseph that JoJo was going to be my next favorite thing. I binged Stardust Crusaders in a week, and binged part 4, I got caught up to the JoJo anime by episode 12. I didn’t have the patience for the next episode so I decided to just read the manga from that part forward. I finished Parts 5,6,7 and managed to get caught up to Part 8 around the time the Part 5 anime was finishing up.
I still couldn’t get enough of JoJo so I then just read as much as I could, I read all the Thus Spokes, Spin-offs, read all the light novels, one-shots, played all the video games I could, I re-read the first 5 JoJo parts, watched the OVA's and even read all of Araki’s works before JoJo. By the end of 2019, I started collecting JoJo merch and figures. Occasionally I’ll post pictures of my collection on my Insta.
Currently, I’m waiting for each new JoJoLands chapter and waiting for each official Viz Media release in English.
