Uniqlo Co., Ltd. (株式会社ユニクロ, Kabushiki-gaisha Yunikuro) is a Japanese fashion and clothing company that is a fast-fashion manufacturer and retailer known for their casual wear. The company is a subsidiary of Fast Retailing Co., Ltd.
In 2005/2006, Hirohiko Araki worked with them as a judge for a design competition and also contributed original illustrations for T-shirt designs later sold by them.
UNIQLO CREATIVE AWARD
In 2005, Uniqlo started a yearly design competition under the name UNIQLO CREATIVE AWARD (ユニクロ・クリエイティブアワード). The competition is open to anyone in the public and allows participants to use a single T-shirt as a canvas for free expression with messages and graphics. The purpose of the competition is to be able to discover new talent from around the world.[1]
A small collected portion of the designs from the vast entries, the first competition receiving 17,704 entries for example,[2] would then be judged and commercialized as T-shirts sold by Uniqlo. The collected designs would also receive awards and cash prizes of varying amounts as well. For the fourth competition in 2008, the name of it was changed to be the UT GRAND PRIX (UTグランプリ), or simply the UTGP.[3] A notable aspect of the competition is the inclusion of leading creatives from various fields as members of the judges, which has included people such as Takehiko Inoue, David Bowie, and Shigeru Miyamoto.

The second competition had its application period from September 16, 2005 to October 31, 2005. The first round of judging took place from November 2005 onwards and the final judging took place in spring of 2006.[4][2] For the competition, Araki was included as one of the judges besides Joe Hisaishi, Takashi Homma, Issey Ogata, Barbara Kruger, Yayoi Kusama, Langlands & Bell, Lily Franky, Noriyuki Tanaka, and the Uniqlo selection committee.[5] Araki's inclusion as a judge would also be announced in the February 2006 issue of Ultra Jump.[6]
Besides the Grand Prize winner, nine other designs were Jury Prize winners. Each of the nine received an award from one of the judges. The design "dinner table" by Fusanari Masuda received Araki's award.[7][8]
T-Shirts
Alongside the submitted designs, the judges would also have designs made by them be sold. In the announcement from the February 2006 issue of Ultra Jump, it also mentioned that the T-shirts with original designs from Araki would be on sale that spring and when the artwork and designs were known, would be also be announced in Ultra Jump.[6]
When the artworks and designs were revealed, they were also announced in the May 2006 issue of Ultra Jump. 100 of the shirts were given away to readers if they applied,[9] and two winners would receive all four shirts as a web-only present.[10] The issue also included a pin-up poster of one of the illustrations.[11] The two designs are named Killer Tiger Queen (キラー・タイガー・クイーン, Kirā Taigā Kuīn) and Killer Dancing Queen (キラー・ダンシング・クイーン, Kirā Danshingu Kuīn).[12]

- According to a fan who attended the SOUL'd OUT concert in Sendai on April 12, 2006, Shinnosuke was seen wearing the Dancing shirt after the encore of the concert.[14]
- In the author's note of Volume 4 of Taizo Mote King Saga, Amon Dai is pictured wearing the Dancing shirt. In Chapter 46, the character Atsuko Mani is also seen wearing the Dancing shirt.
