Chapter 43
Summary
Erina arrives in time to see Jonathan collapse from Dio's attack. Dio states that he had been aiming to give Jonathan a quick death by shooting him through the head; however, since Jonathan attempted to dodge the attack, the attack was off its mark. The severed head addresses Erina who recognizes him as Dio; and a hoard of zombies begins to break into the hold. Wang Chan reveals that he drained the life of a single passenger aboard the ship, and almost the whole ship had been turned undead.
Because of his neck wounds, Jonathan cannot speak or use the Ripple to help Erina. Wang Chan realizes this, and asks Dio if he can take vengeance upon him by beating him while he is down. Dio rejects this, saying that Chan should make his death quick and painless.
Wang Chan goes to finish Jonathan, but in a last effort to repel him, Jonathan summons the last of his strength to send one final Ripple into Wang Chan's body. This not only causes Chan to fly backwards into the ship's screwshaft, but also compels his zombified muscles to grasp onto it, inhibiting it's ability to rotate properly and ensuring the ship's eventual explosion.
Jonathan, having regained the ability to speak because of his final Ripple, tells Erina that the ship will explode. Erina tells Jonathan that she wants to die with him.
