Dio Brando the Invader (1), originally A New Friend! in the WSJ release, is the second chapter of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga. It is also the second chapter of Part I: Phantom Blood.

Summary

George welcomes Dio into the Joestar home as a son and expects him to get along well with Jonathan. Jonathan has forgiven Dio for kicking Danny earlier concluding that he might have done the same had a strange dog suddenly jumped at him. He moves to help Dio with his luggage only to have Dio twist his arm and say that he would have the servants do it instead. Even though Jonathan says he only wishes to be friends, Dio impresses son him that he would be fist in everything and that Jonathan had better not look down on him. Dio also adds that he is, in fact, not afraid of dogs; but rather, he hates them and the way they grovel around humans. George indirectly stops the confrontation when he calls Dio to show him to his room.

George makes it a point to raise the boys as gentlemen, instructing them in things such as book studies and table manners. When Dio is easily able to outshine Jonathan in both these things, George concludes that he had been too soft raising his son and tells him to learn from Dio's example.

In one later instance, Jonathan takes part in a local boxing match with boys from town. Though he was supposed to face the current "champion" Mark Watkin, Joanthan's match is turned around when Dio shows up to challenge him. When the fight is set the two of them wager their allowances on it and the match starts. Jonathan throws a flurry of punches, but Dio effortlessly dodges all of them before going on the offensive. When he strikes back, Dio lands a direct punch to Jonathan's face and surreptitiously follows through with it, jamming his thumb into Jonathan's eye. With Dio's stunning victory, Jonathan's friends take a liking to him and he takes the opportunity to discredit Jojo among them and isolate him. As Jonathan struggles to get up he wonders why Dio could be trying to ruin his life.
