Chapter 22
Summary
Zeppeli explains to Jonathan and Speedwagon how the man standing in front of them is a zombie: immortal so long as he consumes human flesh, but completely subordinate to his vampire master, Dio. Jack the Ripper displays his power by cutting the very air around him with his knife. To further demonstrate his power, he severs one of his fingers, and jams his knife through his own cheeks while describes what fear they must be feeling. Zeppeli presumes that the former mans purpose for living must have been to slice things to pieces with his knife; he was an evil man even when he was human. Zeppeli uses battle to further instruct Jonathan; he tells Jojo that thinking as his enemy does is crucial to battle and determining his opponent's next move. Zeppeli demonstrates by predicting that Jack would attempt to close off the entrance to the tunnel, preventing them from escaping back into the sun. He is proven correct when the zombie throws the carriage they were riding in at them. Though they all manage to dodge the attack, the carriage crashes and collapses the tunnel entrance.
Jack the Ripper laughs as scalpels emerge all from over his body. From this Speedwagon realizes that, because of the extra scalpels, he was able to stop their carriage, kill all of the horses, and their driver without detection. Zeppeli takes a sip of his wine, seemingly unconcerned, as Jack the Ripper launches the scalpels from his body at high speeds, using the power of his muscles. Jonathan and Speedwagon take cover behind a rock to sheild themselves, but the scalpels start to cut through the rock itself, injuring Speedwagon's shoulder in the process.
As three of the scalpels are about to hit Zeppeli, and he spits out some of the wine he drank. It turns into three rapidly spinning circles of liquid that cut Jack the Ripper's flying scalpels in half, straight down their blades. Zeppeli calls this the Ripple cutter. As he counters one of Jack's attacks with the wine bottle he was holding, Zeppeli tells Jonathan that by controlling his fear, he can master the power of the Ripple. Zeppeli then uses a Sendo wave kick on Jack the Ripper, burning the right half of his face severely. Zeppeli tells Jonathan to finish off Jack as he drinks his wine.
