Chapter 17
Summary
It's been 3 days since the battle with Dio, and Speedwagon decides it would be a good time to visit Jonathan in the hospital, despite having broken arm himself. Upon entering the hospital, he is stopped at the door to Jonathan's room by an unknown woman. As much as he argues, the women will not let him, telling him that Jonathan is not accepting any visitors at the moment. Speedwagon is insulted by this, but stubbornly decides to come back later instead.
As a libertine from the slums, Speedwagon takes it upon himself to sneak into the hospital. Later that night, he climbs over the hospital wall and makes his way to Jonathan's room. He is surprised upon looking through the crack in the door that the same woman was still there tending to Jonathan's injuries. Even more surprising is the fact that her hands were bruised from burden of have squeezing a wet towel over thousands times. Her devotion to his injuries seemed unnatural.
Jonathan soon regains consciousness and is perplexed by the women tending to him. She says to him a greeting as if she knew him before, which at once causes Jonathan to recognize her. She was his childhood lover, Erina Pendleton, who had returned to take care of him for the past few days. Speedwagon realizes that the two know each other and concludes that it must be fate. He decides it would be better to leave them alone and walks off.
Back at the remains of the Joestar Mansion, Wang Chan appears to be excavating the rubble for something. What he finds is the Stone mask; but before he is able to grab it, a hand launches itself from the debris and grabs his wrist. His lifeforce is drained and his assailant is revealed to be known other than Dio, who had apparently survived the fire.
