Gameplay
Eyes of Heaven is a 3D action brawler, described as Stylish Tag JoJo Action (スタイリッシュタッグジョジョアクション, Sutairisshu Taggu JoJo Akushon), set in large arenas based on locations in the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga.
Players may pick a single character to control in a large environment, as well as a second character that may be controlled by either a CPU or second human player to fight the enemy team for a 2v2 battle. The game doesn't allow for local multiplayer but only online multiplayer in 1v1 or 2v2.
During a match, each duo has to deplete the enemy duo's health bar first before the end of the round. To do so, the characters have access to either basic attacks or special attacks that will take away a portion of an enemy's health bar should they hit. Special attacks are subject to cooldowns during which a character isn't allowed to perform it again. Defensively speaking, a player can either block an attack to reduce the damage taken, or dodge it with a fast but short step. Each character has one special ability they can occasionally perform but has a greater cooldown. A team can do a Dual Combo (デュアルコンボ, Dyuaru Konbo) during which they have to make enough successful attacks to perform a special cinematic and damage further the enemy team. A team can also perform Dual Heat Attacks (デュアルヒートアタック, Dyuaru Hīto Attaku), special cinematic combos which will damage one of the enemy character. Moreover, the arena contain interactive items the characters can freely use for a number of goal, such as throwing crates at the enemy or drink at a cafe to replenish health.
Characters have three health bars which are depleted in succession until the character is "Retired", and knocked out of the fight. Each time a health bar is depleted, the character is temporarily knocked down before being able to resume the fight. When a member from a duo is Retired, his partner will be powered up to balance the number disadvantage.
Certain match-ups contain special animations and dialogue between two characters, mostly between allies in the form of unique Dual Heat Attacks.
The Story Mode includes an ability tree for each character. Characters are originally available in the game only with an incomplete set of techniques which are unlocked by fighting with them, and use the point reward from a fight to unlock a technique or improve the character's stats in the tree.
Storyline
The game features an original storyline supervised by Hirohiko Araki[3] and centers around timeline and universal interference within the JoJo universe, as well as the Saint Corpse Parts.
