Characters separated by their corresponding power source. Through the series many characters used different powers respective to the parts they were featured:

• The Ripple, used to fight creatures weak to sunlight by focusing the sun power into attacks through breathing, is mainly used by the heroes of Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency. It also is briefly used in Stardust Crusaders.
• Stands are the main power source of nearly all characters following Stardust Crusaders. Stand Users use psychic entities known as Stands which in turn have supernatural abilities.
• The Spin is a new type of power used by a few people in Steel Ball Run, it uses the power behind a perpetual rotation to create various effects.
• Those who fight with a different method are classified as Others/Strange Powers.

Races

• Humans constitute most of the cast, and only a scant few of them have supernatural powers.
• A Vampire is an organism artificially granted extreme physical prowess with an artifact known as Stone Mask at the cost of being unable to live in the sunlight.
• A Zombie is a lesser undead created by Dio Brando, being similar but overall weaker than a Vampire.
• The Pillar Men is the superior race of the antagonists in Battle Tendency. They are extremely powerful and immortal, but still vulnerable to sunlight.
• Ghost is the state in which characters find themselves after death.
• The Rock Humans are a race of human-looking creatures which notably can turn themselves into stone.
