Characters separated by their corresponding power source. Through the series many characters used different powers respective to the parts they were featured:

• The Ripple, used to fight creatures weak to sunlight by focusing the sun power into attacks through breathing, is mainly used by the heroes of Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency. It also is briefly used in Stardust Crusaders.
• Stands are the main power source of nearly all characters following Stardust Crusaders.
• The Spin is a new type of power used by a few people in Steel Ball Run.
• Those who fight with a different method are classified as Others/Strange Powers.

Races

• The Vampire race's naturally granted abilities are the main power source for the antagonist Dio Brando and a few of his minions.
• The powers of the Zombie race are used by the minor henchmen of the vampire Dio.
• The Pillar Men is the superior race of the antagonists in Battle Tendency.
• Ghost is the state in which characters find themselves after death.
• The Rock Humans are a racer of human-looking creatures which notably can turn themselves into stone.
