Chapter 29
Summary
Bruford, managing to escape Jonathan's Ripple with only a scratch, backflips onto land and tells Jonathan that he wants to fight him on equal grounds, without handicaps, because he thinks Jonathan has the skill of a hero, demonstrating his chivalry and pride. With a mighty battle cry, Bruford leaps towards Jonathan and uses his Dance Macabre Hair technique again. Jonathan tries to hold back the attack by countering with an Overdrive barrage, but this fails, and Jonathan becomes ensnared in Bruford's hair. It lifts his body off the ground and begins draining his blood. His hair is able to move because of something called Turgor, which is caused by the movement of water between cells.
Unable to transmit the Ripple through his hands, Jonathan cannot prevent his blood from being drained by Bruford's hair. As Bruford's hair tightens around his body, he is losing the ability to draw breath. Speedwagon tries to go save Jonathan, but Tarkus suddenly appears in front of him. Zeppeli confronts Tarkus uncertainly.
Jonathan, seemingly at the mercy of Bruford's hair, appears to be facing his end as Bruford draws his sword. Then, just as Bruford swings his sword, his hair loosens up enough for Jonathan to kick the sword and transfer an Overdrive through it, causing Bruford's arm to fall out of its socket. While Bruford is still stunned, Jonathan uses the Sunlight Yellow Overdrive to strike back at Bruford.
