The camera pans across the ruins of a century-old steamship at the bottom of the sea. Venturing further into the wreck, a large chest is brought into focus as the camera zooms in. Next to the latch that seals it is engraved a single word: DIO.
A flashback depicts the ship beginning to explode. The ship's screw shaft is shown to be jammed, revealing the cause behind the explosion. Within the fires of the explosion, a set of hands lift a glass jar high into the air, revealed to be holding the severed head of Dio, who opens his eyes in dramatic fashion. The glass jar breaks open as Dio's head leaps into the air, using its own veins as limbs. The blood vessels are shown lashing out as Dio lunges forward. Their target is a man named Jonathan Joestar, whose injuries and torn clothing highlight the star-shaped birthmark on his neck.
Dio's veins wrap around Jonathan's neck and begin digging into his flesh as the explosion intensifies. Jonathan removes a piece of shrapnel embedded in his back, reopening the wound in the process, and uses it to stab Dio in the neck. The explosion finally consumes the image of Jonathan and Dio locked in battle, along with the rest of the boat.
