The Grateful Dead (ザ・グレイトフル・デッド) is a stand featured in Part V: Vento Aureo.
Appearance
The Grateful Dead is a humanoid torso covered with eyes. It has no mouth. It has no legs and walks on his hands, which each have four fingers evenly spaced around its circumference. Hanging from its waist where its legs should be are four segmented tentacles.
Abilities
- Accelerated Aging: The Grateful Dead has the ability to cause people to age physically and mentally at an accelerated rate. This stand can not tell friend from foe and will affect all in its area equally with the exception of its user. Even infants would succumb to the effect of "aging", with their skin wrinkling and hair falling out, rather than simply grow into an adult quickly.[1] Prosciutto can, however, age himself to disguise himself as another, and age someone very rapidly by touching them with the Grateful Dead.[2]
- Body Heat Differentiation: The Grateful Dead can use body heat to differentiate between males and females and as a result, slow down the process for a target gender group that needs to be captured alive. People that are aware of this can then modify their body heat to slow the process for themselves (i.e. if a female is targeted, a male can take action to cool down his body to slow the aging process). It appears that the stand is incapable of selectively decelerating its aging abilities as it is capable of accelerating them, as a woman on the train was shown to have aged not unlike the other men near her while Pesci was forced to keep himself close to the ice to ward off the aging effects.[1][2]
