Okuyasu Nijimura
Okuyasu Nijimura is one of the main characters in Part IV: Diamond is Unbreakable. The character is introduced as an antagonist, but quickly becomes Josuke's best friend.
Synopsis
Okuyasu isn't known to be the brightest character in the story, and tended to rely on his elder brother Keicho Nijimura to make difficult decisions. After his brother died from the Stand of Red Hot Chili Pepper, he sought revenge against its user. During this time and the following events surrounding Yoshikage Kira, he became fast friends with Josuke and Koichi. Okuyasu is jealous of Koichi's relationship with Yukiko, but only comically so and doesn't interfere himself, and, due to the effects of Tonio Trussardi's stand, enjoys his cooking. He also befriends Fatty, after fighting his stand Harvestwith Josuke. Okuyasu's value of friendship is the reason he became enraged when Fatty was killed by Yoshikage Kira.
Okuyasu's father has mutated into a bizarre creature due to Dio's spores when Okuyasu was only 7. He rather dislikes Rohan Kishibebecause of what Rohan tried to do to him when they first met. Eventually Okuyasu seemingly dies after suffering mortal wounds during a battle with Yoshikage Kira, only to return after meeting his brother in a dream. Keicho asks him where he wants to go and Okuyasu answers that he wants "to go back to Morioh" which results in him waking up.
Stand
Okuyasu's stand, The Hand, is a reference to the Canadian country rock band, The Band. The reference to this group is a misheard pronounciation of how Japanese would use the "ha" or "ba" sound.
The lyrics to the song "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" give insight to the nature of Okuyasu, as well as Keicho, and the theme of the the Nijimura Brothers chapters.
Trivia
- He enjoys a strawberry & chocolate chip ice cream on his way to school; it is the only thing that cheers him up on Monday mornings.
- Okuyasu normally cannot handle any type of spicy food.
- He frequently says that his "brain is not so good", a fact his brother and other characters mention often.
- The 億 sign on his right sleeve is the "Oku", the kanji for 100,000,000.
