Summary
Speedwagon, having attempted suicide in detainment, has been put in a straightjacket by the Nazis. Stroheim takes this as confirmation that Speedwagon knows something of value to their cause, and a shutter opens behind him, revealing the man in the pillar. The Nazis have secured it in a large room, prepared to interrogate Speedwagon with a truth serum. Stroheim then visits a cell where he knocks out a rebelling prisoner and asks the others to choose someone to sacrifice. One young boy courageously volunteers himself to save the others, but as a twisted reward for his bravery, Stroheim spares the boy and sacrifices all the other prisoners.
Elsewhere, Joseph is riding a motorcycle through the Mexican desert but stops at a nearby town. After accidentally drinking the water laid out for horses, he resorts to beating up a bunch of Mexican thugs and forces them to supply him with food and gasoline.
Back at the Nazi base, Stroheim brings Speedwagon into an underground laboratory where the Pillar Man is being kept and brags about the security measures to contain the man in the pillar while scientists pump blood into the stone column.
