Chariot Requiem (チャリオッツ・レクイエム, Chariottsu Rekuiemu) or simply Requiem (レクイエム, Rekuiemu) is a Requiem Stand featured in the fifth part of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, Vento Aureo. Chariot Requiem resembles a man clouded in darkness. It is a very dangerous Stand due to its ability to control souls on a massive scale.
It is the evolved form of Silver Chariot after being pierced by the Arrow. Aside from Gold Experience, it is the only other Stand known to have a Requiem form.
Appearance
Chariot Requiem is an androgynous[1] humanoid Stand of light build, large hips, and average height.
Its most striking feature is that it is completely shrouded in shadows, appearing entirely black. It wears a large hat with one side folded over its top, a coat over which Chariot Requiem sports large rings serving as shoulder pads, a stylized belt, and pants decorated with braces around the ankles.
Bucciarati notes that Chariot Requiem is fully materialized and thus ordinary people can see and interact with it.[3] Its face is shown to have an arrow-like mark underneath what seems to be a large, empty eye. Bucciarati even described it as having an appearance similar to 'black plastic'.
Its design is based on the myth of a man wearing pitch-black resembling Death, visiting Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to commission the ultimately-unfinished Requiem that he would work on in his final days.[1]

Personality
Chariot Requiem is an automated Stand that went out of control due to Polnareff no longer being fit for combat. It seems to be nearly mindless, generally walking straight forward and ignoring outside stimuli. Polnareff himself describes the Stand as "berserk".[4] Despite this, Chariot Requiem inherited Polnareff's will, aiming to protect the Arrow from everyone at all costs and attacking anyone who tries to take the Arrow from it.
Abilities
Although its previous form is a heavily combat-oriented Stand, Chariot Requiem doesn't show any combat ability. However, it can be considered one of the most dangerous Stands ever featured in the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series due to its domination over living souls.
Body Manipulation
Chariot Requiem is particularly resilient; it reattaches detached limbs with ease, as demonstrated when it reconnects its arm after it was severed by Sticky Fingers and Sex Pistols.[5][6]
It also demonstrates the ability to control its limbs from a distance, shooting its arm out of a pole to grab Polnareff in the turtle.[5]
Soul Manipulation and Complete Alteration of Life
Upon activation, Chariot Requiem puts every living being in a large area around it (at least the entirety of Rome[7]) into a forceful sleep of around 6–7 hours.[4][8] During that sleep, Requiem switches the soul of one organism with that of another around, regardless of species. If a body physically dies, the soul currently inhabiting it will die too. In this case, the previous owner is able to take over their own body, provided it is still suitable for life.[9]
However, this is just a preliminary stage, as Chariot Requiem's true ability is complete control of the "souls of all living beings" in the world.[10] With enough time, the Stand will begin to transform souls affected by its ability into the souls of unidentifiable, otherworldly beings, causing horrifying mutations.
Polnareff comes to the conclusion that the ability switches the entirety of the people, animals, and plants of Earth with "something else".[5] The theorized result would be the complete metamorphosis of every organism in the biosphere, both in body and soul, into completely new and absolutely unknown entities. The effect of the violent transformation appears to be painless, as those transforming continued their activities without noticing that they were physically changing.[6]
Stand Manipulation
As Chariot Requiem is able to affect souls, it also affects Stands, as they are a reflection of the soul. The first known ability of Chariot Requiem is to greatly empower Stands, energizing them and making them more powerful than they were before the soul switch; it can reach the point where some Users can hardly control their Stands.[11]
Secondly, Chariot Requiem can partially control Stands in order to protect the Arrow as it was commanded. Any Stand user who tries to take the Arrow or even affect it in the slightest will be attacked by their own Stand. Sentient Stands are shown to temporarily go mad and wish to kill their owners in a psychotic fashion as in the case of Sex Pistols' No.1.[12] The response is always proportional to the attack; merely reaching out one's hand will only summon another hand, while attacking the Arrow will cause a full-scale retaliation.[3] If Chariot Requiem is attacked in any other form outside a Stand, it will engage the assailant personally.
Shadow Weakness
For as powerful as Chariot Requiem is, it does have a critical weakness. If anyone looks at Chariot Requiem, they may notice that its shadow will always be opposite to the observer, regardless of any ambient sources of light like the sun.[6][13] In reality, Diavolo discovers that what appears as Requiem's shadow is the shadow of the observer's own soul: the Stand manifests itself in this shadow.[13] To accomplish this, it manifests a psychic light source which always hovers behind one's head and is only visible to the person to whom it is attached. A Stand can destroy the marble emitting the light in order to defeat Chariot Requiem.[13]
History
Pre-Vento Aureo
After Polnareff's brutal defeat at the hands of Diavolo, he hid in a local farmhouse for some time, still carrying the Arrow alongside him. One day, he dropped the arrow between a wall and a chest of drawers, and when he attempted to retrieve it with Silver Chariot, the Arrow pricked its finger. As Silver Chariot transformed into Chariot Requiem for the first time, taking on an entirely new form as a shadowy figure, every living thing in the vicinity began to fall asleep. In a panic, Polnareff took the Arrow away from it, reverting Chariot back to normal.[14]
His name is Diavolo
Much later, Polnareff encounters Diavolo again, and fatally loses the battle, but as a last-ditch effort, he pierces Chariot with the Arrow.[15] The shadowy figure appears before Diavolo, walking by. With Chariot Requiem formed again, it guards the arrow and swaps the souls of everyone within range, putting them to sleep.[8]
The Requiem Quietly Plays
When Team Bucciarati reawakens, they are shocked by Chariot's effects.[16] They experiment with their new found power, until they notice Bucciarati (inside Diavolo's body), dismembering Chariot.[4] When he attempts to take the arrow, however, Sticky Fingers manifests to attack him and Chariot immediately sprints towards him. Bucciarati is saved when Mista fires at Requiem. However, No.1 suddenly appears attempting to murder Mista, but Trish steps in to stop it. Bewildered by its abilities, the gang watches as Requiem reattaches its arm and continues to move.[12] The gang follows behind Requiem, waiting for a chance to take the arrow.[17]
Unbeknownst to them however, Diavolo resides within Mista's body, planning to take the arrow when they least expect. Requiem makes its way to the streets of Rome, roaming around the city. The group tails the Stand, trying to figure out a way to take the Arrow. Polnareff attempts to grab it himself, due to no longer having a Stand, he speculates that he wouldn't be in-danger of a surprise attack. Chariot Requiem quickly makes way to Polnareff as he asks Mista to pierce his Stand.[3]
Requiem is once again stopped by Mista, but gets hold of the Arrow. It proceeds to attack Polnareff again repeatedly, even when met with retaliation by Mista and Giorno. It finally grabs Polnareff, but stops just as suddenly due to another one of its abilities manifesting. The group and the people around transform into grotesque creatures, Polnareff realizes the severity of the situation, as Requiem continues to roam.[5]
Giorno stops the group's chase and explains the possibility of Diavolo residing within one of them.[6] Diavolo reveals himself after Giorno's blood test to dispatch him and sprints towards Chariot Requiem. Through observation, Diavolo realizes the secret of the Stand and destroys it partially. Chariot moans and slowly disintegrates.[13] When Diavolo becomes close to victory after an arduous battle, Bucciarati reveals his last hand. He destroys Requiem's orb of light with Sticky Fingers, reverting everyone back to their previous bodies. Chariot Requiem disintegrates completely, and things are restored to normal.[18]

Video Games
Heritage for the Future (DC/Arcade)
Chariot Requiem appears as a part of Polnareff's Super Move Glimpse of Requiem (レクイエムの片鱗). On input Silver Chariot will pop out and be unexpectedly hit by the arrow, briefly turning into Chariot Requiem. The screen will then flash, and the other character will be put to sleep.
GioGio's Bizarre Adventure (PS2)
Chariot Requiem appears in GioGio's Bizarre Adventure as the enemy character of Chapter 11-2, the penultimate battle of the game.
The player must defeat Requiem before it reaches the Colosseum's exit; failing to do so causes the player to immediately lose the battle. Requiem continuously walks toward the Colosseum's exit and never directly attacks the player. However, Requiem automatically summons a copy of Sticky Fingers to defend itself that can move independently of Requiem. Requiem's Sticky Fingers can use all of Bucciarati's Stand Mode attacks, and its range and independent movement mean that it can interrupt the player's combos and even combo the player themselves to give Requiem time to reach the exit.
In Another Story Mode, Chariot Requiem continues to use Sticky Fingers even though the player cannot play as Bucciarati. Oddly, Chapter 11-2 uses Diavolo's theme, making Chariot Requiem the only enemy character to not have at least one unique battle theme.

Eyes of Heaven (PS3/PS4)
Chariot Requiem appears as a stage hazard on the Part 5 stage, "Coliseum", holding the arrow. Those who enter its range will fall asleep and be left vulnerable to their opponent, having to rapidly shake the movement stick in order to awaken. The orb of light that comes with Requiem will follow any of the four fighters, always being behind them. Hitting it once will temporarily vanquish Chariot Requiem for a moment.
All-Star Battle R (Various)
Chariot Requiem appears in All-Star Battle R as both a Stage Gimmick (ステージギミック, Sutēji Gimikku) and Situation Finish (シチュエーションフィニッシュ, Shichuēshon Finisshu) for the stage Colosseum (コロッセオ, Korosseo).
As a Stage Gimmick, it appears and puts both combatants to sleep, granting them increased attack strength once they wake up.

As a Situation Finish, if hit towards the entrance gates, the loser is sent flying, landing near Chariot Requiem's severed arm and the Arrow. Requiem picks up the Arrow, reattaches its arm, and exits the Colosseum.
