Anime 10th Anniversary Exhibition

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Anime 10th Anniversary Exhibition (「ジョジョの奇妙な冒険」アニメ10周年記念展, JoJo no Kimyō na Bōken Anime 10-Shūnenkinen-ten) was a special exhibition that was held starting in Summer 2022 in Tokyo, Japan to celebrate JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: The Animation's 10th Anniversary.

It was announced on April 4, 2022 and its first venue was at Ikebukuro, Tokyo at Sunshine City Exhibition Hall C starting on August 10, 2022. More venues were announced later.[1][2]

On July 30, 2022, the official Twitter account announced that there would be returning venues spanning between certain months until January 9, 2023.[3] Tickets for other venues had been announced for the Sendai, Miyagi prefecture on January 7, 2023. The Twitter account stated it would run from January 21, 2023 up until February 26, 2023[4] along with another venue in the Nagoya prefecture running from March 11, 2023 to April 2, 2023.[5]

Summary

The exhibition featured art of the anime from its first season up to its fifth, Stone Ocean. There were illustrations drawn specifically for the exhibition, screenings of special videos, and a behind-the-scenes look at the animation production. On the day before its opening, on August 9, 2022, they held a special preview event with Kazuyuki Okitsu and Fairouz Ai as guests. During the talk show, the two voice actors passionately shared their favorite aspects of the exhibit, from ceiling decorations and photo spots to the detailed original sketches and storyboards that showcase the dedication of the staff.

After the exhibition closed, "JUMP SHOP Online" sold goods from the exhibition from April 26, 2023 until July 31, 2023.

The Room of Beginnings

Upon entering the venue, the first location was the Room of Beginnings. An original video showcasing the charm of the series throughout its history was projected onto a big screen. There was also an announcement by the voice actors of the series' main characters, but each voice played randomly.

Bloodlines × Duels

Protagonist cutouts

The next area was "Bloodlines × Duels". It was a display of 22 life-sized cutouts of protagonists and main villains from the series, arranged in a row using specially commissioned illustrations. There was also a family tree of the Joestar lineage and a timeline of events in the series.

Inherited Soul

The "Inherited Soul" section included a vast collection of materials, including scripts, original anime sketches, storyboards, and concept art, allowing visitors to reflect on both the characters' journeys and the production team's struggles. Various elements were also arranged on the ceiling and floor.

By scanning the QR code at the entrance, visitors could enjoy an audio guide on their smartphones featuring commentary from the six voice actors who voiced the protagonists: Kazuyuki Okitsu, Tomokazu Sugita, Daisuke Ono, Yuki Ono, Kensho Ono, and Fairouz Ai. They discussed their interpretations of the roles, memorable scenes, and recording anecdotes.

Part-Specific Rooms

The Stone Mask replica

The exhibit was divided by the parts of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, with each room designed to match the unique atmosphere of each work.

Since Phantom Blood, the origin of the series, is set in 1880s England, its exhibit area had a chic, classical feel. It contained the character designs of Jonathan, Dio, and others, as well as the intricate architectural designs of the Joestar mansion and a life-sized replica of the Stone Mask.

In the Battle Tendency area, the walls of the underground ruins where the Pillar Men slumber served as a photo spot. Key scenes, like Joseph's outcry at Caesar's death, Caesar's intense fight with Wamuu, and Esidisi's tears, were also on display through original sketches and storyboards.

The Stardust Crusaders room

Stardust Crusaders led visitors along Jotaro and his friends' journey from Japan to Egypt. Character designs, art settings, original sketches, and storyboards were featured, along with tarot cards symbolizing Stands and the Egypt 9 Glory Gods cards. The exhibit also included photo-like displays of scenes from their journey.

The Diamond is Unbreakable area focused on Morioh, the setting of the story. There were plenty of art settings depicting various spots in town, along with materials delving into the appeal of characters like Josuke. Highlights included original sketches, concept art, recreated props, and a life-sized display of Rohan Kishibe's famous manga, Pink Dark Boy.

The Golden Wind area, set in Italy, had a stylish gallery-like layout that aligns with the sophisticated atmosphere of the work. There were wax-sealed motifs representing each character. The scene of Narancia, Mista, and Fugo dancing on a boat heading to Capri was presented with both storyboard and video.

Finally, the Stone Ocean area was modeled after a prison. This section had character panels surrounded by prison-like bars. It featured several materials and a photo spot where visitors could take a picture with Jolyne holding her prisoner number board.

Final area

Hymn to Humanity ~ Road to the Future~

The final exhibition area displayed portraits of numerous characters from the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series. The main character illustrations changed in appearance depending on the viewing angle.

Goods / Café Area

After leaving the exhibits, there was a merchandise area filled with original items. In the back, the Tokyo venue had a "JOJO10years Anniversary café", offering a selection of nine menu items themed after the characters.
