The Villa on Hawaii Island (Story Arc)

The Villa on Hawaii Island (ハワイ島の別荘, Hawai-tō no Bessō) is the first story arc of The JOJOLands.

It narrates Jodio and the group's plan to steal a diamond from a mysterious Japanese man staying on the island of Hawaii.

Summary

The story follows a boy named Jodio Joestar, who is involved in a gang that smuggles drugs in Hawaii. Jodio and his older brother Dragona are pulled over by two police officers who try to molest Dragona, but Jodio unleashes his Stand, November Rain, and attacks the officers. Jodio covers up their crime by destroying the evidence, and Dragona reveals that they used their Stand, Smooth Operators, to create a fake license and change the license plate of their stolen truck. Jodio reveals that his mother is Barbara Ann Joestar, the daughter of Joseph Joestar, who lives a cushy and protected life because of Jodio's gang affiliation. When Jodio was 11, he was invited to be a gofer for a gang. As he carried out his job efficiently, he gained the gang's recognition and trust.

While headed to school, an upperclassman named Usagi Alohaoe asks Jodio if he brought the stuff he wanted. Jodio takes the money from the boy's pocket and gives him directions of where to find the drugs stashed inside a nearby rain gutter. Jodio says he doesn't go to school to learn or make friends. Rather, it's just another "mechanism" for him; something that will eventually bring him wealth. Later that day, Jodio, Dragona, and a teenager named Paco Laburantes, are summoned by their boss Meryl Mei Qi to the fashion boutique Iko Iko. She shows the three a natural 24-carat blue diamond worth $6 million, owned by a Japanese tourist who is staying on the Big Island of Hawaii. She orders them to steal the diamond as a team of four, revealing that Usagi will also be working with them. As the four of them set out on their new mission, the three Stands that have been used so far have their names revealed: Jodio's November Rain, Dragona's Smooth Operators, and Paco's THE Hustle.[1]

While sitting by a tree, a woman riding a bicycle introduces herself to Jodio and asks him for drugs. Jodio tells her to get lost, but as the woman is about to leave, Jodio calls her back. Jodio suspects that she's a police officer. Annoyed, the woman tells him that police officers are legally not allowed to lie if they're doing an undercover investigation. Trusting the woman, Jodio tells her to walk past the statue of King Kamehameha. After she does, Paco arrives to inform her that the bag of drugs are under a leaf. Spotting the drugs, she immediately pulls out her gun and police badge, revealing that she actually was an undercover DEA agent. She places Jodio and Paco under arrest while other police officers pin them to the ground. The cop pinning down Jodio asks if Jodio remembers him from before, taunting him by asking how his cute big brother is doing. He threatens to take both brothers to a dark room and molest them. Although Jodio wants to kill them, he simply gets rid of their evidence by using November Rain and gets away. At Kona Airport on the Big Island, Usagi arrives and apologizes for being late since his flight got delayed. Dragona is upset since getting the car ready was his job, so the three of them were stuck waiting for him. Paco thinks that Usagi is probably on drugs, but Dragona and Jodio believe they should trust in Meryl Mei since she vouched for him. They manage to rent a car for the day and drive to their target's villa. Jodio is also sure that there is only the Japanese tourist in the house. Closing in on the villa, Usagi spots a security camera and orders Dragona to wish for a camera. His Stand THE MATTEKUDASAI then makes a clone of the camera, with one recording showing real images while the other shows fake ones. While the tourist is swimming in the pool, Jodio uses binoculars, revealing it to be the manga artist Rohan Kishibe.[2]

Near the pool, Jodio hides behind a chair, excitedly watching Rohan Kishibe swim and seeing his Pink Dark Boy drawings on his iPad. Dragona uses Smooth Operators to infiltrate into Rohan's mansion, with Paco and Usagi keeping watch. Inside, Dragona orders them to only search for the diamond, avoiding other valuables to not raise suspicion at the airport. However, Paco and Usagi are tempted by other items. Discovering a room filled with rocks and flasks, they assume Rohan is involved in drug purification. Usagi informs them that they are cooled lava, but Rohan's purpose for having them is unknown. Jodio, browsing Rohan's iPad, finds pictures of Rohan's pet dog and cooled lava samples. He then suddenly sees a cat jump past him. As Rohan returns inside, Jodio uses November Rain to create a diversion. The trio finds the diamond in a safe, also containing two Lava Rocks. However, they're trapped by a mysterious string-like Stand, which they realize is connected to the cat, now suspected to be a Stand user. As Rohan notices the unnatural occurrences, Jodio warns his allies of the danger, as he believes Rohan can see Stands.[3]

Rohan suspects the rain to be a Stand attack. Paco, caught by the string Stand, tries to escape, while Dragona struggles against the same trap. Usagi manages to dodge the string. Dragona and Paco manage to free themselves using Smooth Operators and THE Hustle. They plan to escape, but notice the diamond they stole has rolled away. Confronted by Rohan, Dragona is stunned by Rohan's Stand, Heaven's Door, which reveals their personal information. Rohan's counterattack leads to a scuffle, during which he gains the upper hand using Heaven's Door to incapacitate Paco and Usagi. The diamond's mysterious nature deepens, as Dragona can't physically grasp it despite seeing and feeling it.[4]

Rohan calls the police to inform them of the attempted robbery. Dragona, in shock over the elusive diamond, tries to escape but is stopped by Rohan. A sudden indoor rain creates confusion, allowing Jodio to trap Rohan. Jodio frees his allies and contemplates their situation, realizing Rohan knows too much. He then leverages Rohan's interest in the Lava Rocks for their safe exit, by crushing one of them and then threatening to destroy the other. Although feeling humiliated that he lost against teenagers, Rohan is intrigued by Jodio. He encourages the boy to keep the Lava Rock as it has a "mechanism" that would make him extremely rich, and agrees to rescind his police report. Jodio departs with his team, but Rohan secretly leaves him with a final piece of advice to be wary of his allies. The trio head to the jungle, unaware they're being watched by a trio of mysterious cats.[5]
