Makuhari

Template:Book

Makuhari (幕張, Makuhari) is a parody gag manga written and illustrated by Yasuaki Kita (木多 康昭, Kita Yasuaki). It was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from February 13, 1996 to November 4, 1997. The manga spans nine volumes and eighty-two chapters in total.

He is also a regular contributor to "Weekly Shonen Jump" magazine's "Kai! Otoko Juku", "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure", "Midori no Makibao", "Rurouni Kenshin - Meiji Swordsman Romantic Tan", "SLAM DUNK", and other works, as well as parodies and tongue-in-cheek references to the editors and celebrities in charge, and extreme undertones on a youth manga magazine level.[1]

Story

Q: "What was the reaction of the manga artist you parodied?"
Kita: "I don't think Araki really cared at all since he's much higher up than me. I've never met him."
—Yasuaki Kita, Q&A[2]

Tetsuto Shiota and Shigeo Nara have no choice but to join Makuhari Minami High School's baseball team because "I want to join the basketball team, but Jump has Slam Dunk, and I don't want to join the sexy commando club. They are joined by Miho Sakurai, the unmotivated and evil baseball club manager, and Koji Kanochika, a good-natured guy who joined the club just to make up the numbers, and a coming-of-age drama unfolds about a baseball club that does not play baseball at all.
