Chapter 44
Summary
Knowing that the both of them will die on the sinking ship Erina shares one last passionate kiss with her husband Jonathan. However, as she finishes Jonathan points to a young baby of a deceased unknown mother and tells Erina to live. Erina initially objects to this but Jonathan tells Erina that the reason he told her to do this action is that his mother died in the same manner as the unknown woman.
Dio hanging on a pipe above the both of them tries to stop the sinking ship by telling his zombies to eat Wang Chuns body off the steamscrew but this proves futile as the ship begins to explode before the zombies can close the distance between their target.
Unfazed by this turn of events however, Dio then extends the blood vessels in his neck to take hold of Jonathan’s neck so he can rip of Jonathans head, place his own on jonathans body, and then get back into his coffin which is built to stand any explosion and form of heat.
Unfortunately, as Dio goes to rip off Jonathans head. Jonathan counters by stabbing Dio’s head with a piece of shrapnel and simply holds his head to his chest saying that he feels a bizarre friendship between them and he plans for them both to disappear with the ships explosion. Saying this to Dio he then then speks his last words to Erina which only tell her to be happy. Dio then futilely bargain with Jonathan by giving him his powers but Jonathan does not listen to anything Dio says even as the ships explosion engulfs them both killing the both of them.
Later off the ship, in the middle of the ocean however, Erina has survived the ships explosion along with the baby Jonathan told her to rescue by being in Dio’s bomb shelter coffin just as the explosion occurred and eventually Erina along with the Young baby washed up on the canary isles and eventually found their ways back to civilization.
