The JOJOLands - Chapter 25
Laem Chabang's Investigation (レムチャバンの取り調べ, Remu Chaban no Torishirabe) is the 25th chapter of The JOJOLands and the 982nd chapter of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga.
Summary
Following the abduction of Meryl Mei Qi, Usagi Alohaoe, and Paco Laburantes have arrived at Iko Iko and are waiting outside the building by Paco's car. Paco looks around, feeling determined. Usagi is left devastated and breaks down crying, revealing to Paco that he never had friends before. Meryl Mei was the first person to ever be kind to him, calling him a good kid. If she is gone, then Usagi will feel lost and he questions how he could trust anyone. Paco tries to calm him down, reminding him that their alliance is business-driven and offers Usagi the option to back out. Since their team's relationship is purely about making money, Paco reassures him that if he leaves them then he has nothing to be ashamed about. He additionally warns that if Usagi proceeds to the boutique where Meryl is held, it could endanger his future due to police involvement. Paco promises to still give Usagi a share of Acca Howler's assets if he leaves now, though it will not be the full amount that it would have originally been. Still, Usagi insists on continuing, having retrieved Meryl Mei's severed fingers and some ice in hopes of reattaching them. Moreover, he is also determined to kill the two who attacked Meryl Mei. Paco appreciates Usagi's resolve and decides to bring him along through the boutique's back door. He arms Usagi with a gun from his car's glove box, instructing him to only use it to save Meryl Mei.
Meanwhile, Laem Chabang and Ningbo are investigating inside Iko Iko while Ningbo wields a gun and Meryl Mei is handcuffed, blood dripping from her hand. They find the door to Meryl Mei's office and Ningbo uses his Stand to inflate the door handle, making it explode so they can enter the room without entering the passcode on the lock. However, the room is empty. Laem shows Meryl Mei a recording on her phone of their initial interrogation back at the school office, reminding Meryl Mei not to lie. In the video, Laem told Meryl Mei to answer her questions with a simple "yes" or "no", adding that even if Meryl Mei stayed quiet or lied by omission, she would just be putting herself in trouble. Laem attempted to coerce Meryl Mei into revealing the identities of her five accomplices, including Paco, and the whereabouts of the missing girl Lulu. Meryl Mei stayed silent, but Laem's nematodes revealed that she is a liar. While Ningbo was recording the conversation, he then used his Stand to inflate the knuckles of Meryl Mei's right hand, exploding three of her fingers off.
Back in the present, Laem asks Meryl Mei where Paco is since Meryl Mei told them this was her hideout, yet it seems to be empty. Although Meryl Mei does not respond again, Laem's nematodes withdraw to indicate she is not lying, meaning she truly does not know Paco's location. Laem asks Ningbo what is behind a panel, but it is only a warehouse space with boxes and coat hangers. Laem suddenly becomes convinced that there must be a secret room concealed by a hidden door. She asks Meryl Mei how many people are hidden in the room, learning from her nematodes and Meryl Mei's reactions that there are two. Laem then demands confirmation by asking Meryl Mei to nod when she points at the location of the hidden door. Once confirmed, Laem prepares to open the door. Seeing the nematodes react, Ningbo lifts the rug below Meryl Mei's desk and finds the door to the basement.
Just as Laem Chabang is about to open the door, Meryl Mei informs her and Ningbo that Howler possesses over $50 billion in assets, and her group has a plan to seize all of it. She warns that if they report what they see in the hidden room to Howler, then not only would the money become nothing, but Laem and Ningbo will also become worthless to Howler. Despite the warning, Ningbo considers it a bluff and tells Laem not to trust her. Meryl Mei implies she will give them a share of the fortune, but Ningbo orders Laem to open the door. Inside the hidden room, they find Lulu relaxing with a book and snacks. Behind her is an injured man, who Laem identifies as the division chief of Dolphin Bank Yokohama. Suddenly, Ningbo realizes that Paco has arrived and fires several bullets at the door, sensing that another foe is on the way as well. However, Paco is above him, hanging onto the ceiling with The Hustle as he grabs onto Ningbo's head.
