The game is played on a gridded field in which the figures can be deployed. Each character possesses their own stats and abilities. The game is won once all of the opponent's castle coins or characters have been destroyed.

Battle Break's story takes place in the year 2111. The characters are divided into four factions:
- Empire (Earth Empire) - highly mechanical united Earth nation expanding their military force into space.
