Soa
Soa (ソア) is a primary ally featured in Bruschetta, the twelfth episode of the Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan series. She is a 4-year-old Hawaiian girl whom Rohan spots wandering around his property.
Appearance
Soa is a 4-year-old Hawaiian girl. She is rather stout, with a plump face, wide nose, and thick lips. She has long, straight, dark hair that falls past her shoulders, with some bangs over her eyes. Soa wears a plain sleeveless dress with a slightly frayed hem, has no footwear, and carries a swimming ring with a flower motif.
Personality
Due to her situation, Soa is a quiet child with the goal of trying to save her and her parents from the sound heightening effects caused by the Evolved Moths. She also demonstrates extreme courage, crossing the bay and climbing the cliffs across from her house to Rohan Kishibe's villa in order to find help. She is shown to be quite fearful of the snails that the moths eat.
After being saved by Rohan, she is at ease. No longer affected by the dust from the moths, she happily eats a bruschetta prepared by Rohan.
Abilities
Soa is implied to have "evolved" in response to the danger the Evolved Moths posed to her family. According to Rohan's observations, she has accomplished feats far beyond what is typical for a child her age, most notably swimming across an entire bay while afflicted with a condition that renders any sound excruciating, and climbing a sheer cliff about 30 meters high.[2]
History
Background
Soa lives in a villa in the Island of Hawaii with her parents. A new species of moths that supposedly evolved in a nearby jungle suddenly infested her villa, spreading scales that debilitated Soa and her family.[3] Their hearing became hypersensitive, with any noise causing echoing in their bodies and ringing in their ears. Soa learned that the effect would be exacerbated when snails were nearby, with their ears oozing and nausea worsening, so they couldn't even go outside. She was also no longer able to use a phone because the sound of her fingers was too loud, and she could not hear anything aside from her footsteps while walking.[1] After her family remained in this state for nine days, Soa left to find help. Despite her condition, she managed to swim across the bay and climbed a 30 meter cliff.[2]
Bruschetta
Soa appears near Rohan Kishibe's villa in front of his car while Rohan is sitting inside it. Rohan tells her to be careful so she doesn't fall off the cliff or enter his property, wondering where her parents are. Since she can't hear him, Soa doesn't answer and leaves.[4]
After Rohan becomes affected by the scales of the moths as well, he finds Soa crouching by one of his potted plants. Soa approaches Rohan, who yells at her to stay away. However, she jumps toward him and tries grabbing his phone. Rohan notices that her ear is oozing and is shocked. When Soa's hand taps the emergency button on his phone, he realizes that the sounds he was hearing in his villa were actually echoes within his own body.[5] Soa collapses in Rohan's arms, but nearly screams when spotting a nearby snail on a potted plant.[6] Rohan's ear then starts oozing as well, so he uses Heaven's Door on Soa to learn what is going on.[1]
When Rohan sees one of the moths feeding on a snail, he reads Soa's pages again and finds rules of what to do when seeing a snail.[7] A swarm of moths then infest the area to prey on snails. Rohan collapses from nausea out of all the loud sounds he is hearing. He tells Soa not to worry about him and finds the willpower to get back up.[8] He then gets on top of a chair and grabs one of the moths, using Heaven's Door on it to learn that their weakness is cineole, a compound found in eucalyptus trees. Boiling the leaves from a eucalyptus tree in his backyard, Rohan drinks the extract and cures both himself and Soa, repelling the moths.[9] He then feeds Soa a bruschetta while they wait for rescue to arrive.[1]
