I’ll take this doll. It was on the nightstand, but for some reason it fell into my bag. Like it wanted to get away from here with me. I dunno why, but I’m starting to like it even though it seems cheap.
—Lucio Portelli, The Doll Without a Past

Lucio Portelli (ルーチョ・ポルテッリ, Rūcho Poruterri) is a secondary antagonist featured in the short story "The Doll Without a Past", part of the Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan: Short Story Collection. He is a thieving merchant that sells stolen goods at the Porta Portese Market in Rome.

Appearance

Lucio's appearance is mostly unknown, but he is an adult man with heavyset eyes and a snake tattoo on his forehead.[1]

Personality

Lucio Portelli is a conniving man that resorts to thievery for a living and lies about his stolen goods in order to entice customers to purchase from his shop at the Porta Portese Market. He presents himself as an approachable bombastic man with a witty retort to anything asked by his customers. However, he has a short temper with a violent attitude if he breaks character as shown when he attempts to snatch Rohan by his collar for asking too many questions about the mysterious doll in his possession.[1]

History

Background

Lucio Portelli made a name for himself as the Martello (Hammer) due to breaking into many places using his trusty hammer, enough to make a living by selling stolen goods within the Roman Thieves Market. He can be described as a villa burglar of sorts.

One day, he breaks into a millionaire's house. He steals everything he can including a strange doll that fell from the nightstand directly into his bag. He immediately felt a liking for the wooden doll in spite of its cheap appearance.[1]

The Doll Without a Past

A week later, Lucio Portelli encounters Rohan Kishibe whose curious nature brought him over to purchase at his shop. Lucio begins his act of boisterously lying about the pasts of every item until Rohan points at the doll. He loses all energy and emotion, denying its past which only heightens Rohan's interest. Lucio eventually has enough and attempts to threaten the mangaka only to be intercepted by Heaven's Door. He loses all memory of the encounter and is then forced to sell the doll away as commanded by Rohan's Stand. A spiritual countdown is activated as soon as he transfers ownership of the doll.

Another week passed, a deadly car crash occurred in the urban area of Italy, where a truck plowed through a crowd of people. Lucio's reported to be the only casualty from the disastrous incident.[1]
