Thirty years have passed since the Joestar Group set off for Egypt to defeat their arch-enemy DIO in the manga JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. A grand project is finally underway in which Kendo Kobayashi and Cookie from Wild Bomb retrace that journey, with a volume in hand!
—Synopsis

Kendo Kobayashi & Wild Bomb Cookie! JoJo Journey (ケンドーコバヤシ&野性爆弾くっきー! JoJoジャーニー, Kendō Kobayashi & Yasei Bakudan Kukkī! JoJo Jānī) is a Japanese TV show produced by NEXTEP that aired from April 27, 2019 to May 23, 2020.

The show stars the comedians Kendo Kobayashi and Kunihiro Kawashima (known by his stage name "Cookie!") as they travel to locations that the Joestar Group visited in the third part of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, Stardust Crusaders. Spanning 20 episodes, it is split into three arcs, the Hong Kong/Singapore Arc (香港・シンガポール編, Hon Kon Shingapōru-hen), the India Arc (インド編, Indo-hen), and the Egypt Arc (エジプト編, Ejiputo-hen).

Production

Kendo Kobayashi & Wild Bomb Cookie! JoJo Journey aired on dTV Channel's Hikari TV Channel+ every other Saturday at 7:30 PM.[3] The Egypt Arc began airing on January 18, 2020, and in commemoration of its start, they held an event at Yoshimoto Mugendai Hall in Tokyo on January 13, 2020. At the event, Kobayashi and Cookie shared behind-the-scenes stories from their journey, mixed with JoJo references. Footage from the Egypt Arc was also shown ahead of its streaming release, and exclusive show merchandise was given away at the venue.[4]

Initially, the show was meant to star Kendo Kobayashi alone, where the idea was that he'd be traveling overseas and suddenly get attacked by a Stand. When thinking about how to handle the Stand, Kobayashi figured that "someone weird like Cookie" could pull it off. However, their plan then changed a lot, and it turned into a travel show. When thinking about which manga really deserved a pilgrimage, they knew it had to be JoJo. They heard rumors that anime pilgrimages helped revitalize local towns, so Kobayashi joked that they should go revitalize Egypt. There were various factors as to why they chose to do a journey based on Stardust Crusaders. Kobayashi stated that if they did a Battle Tendency-based journey, then they would've had to go to New York, Mexico, Italy, and Switzerland, which would've been really expensive. He thought it would be better to build up a track record with this trip and then tackle other trips in the future based on the ratings of the show.[5]

Since Stardust Crusaders covered things like table manners and how to behave abroad, Kobayashi and Cookie put that to the test to see if any of it holds up in reality. Kobayashi revealed that there were moments where he thought "this doesn't work at all," but figured that was a given since it had been decades since it was written in the manga. Moreover, they tracked down locations from the manga in detail. Kobayashi joked that they didn't bother going to important tourist areas and instead just went to spots that appeared in random panels of the manga.[5]

In April 2020, the show was made free to watch on the dTV channel app during the COVID-19 lockdowns.[6] However, the app shut down on March 31, 2022.[7] Despite the good reception of the show, it has not been released on home video or other streaming platforms, so it is no longer available to watch.
