Cairo is a sprawling city of 2,000,000 habitants at the time of the story and a long history, with labyrinthine streets and unique local customs. It is also the home of Muhammad Avdol. It is the theater of several battles, notably Jotaro Kujo against DIO.

The 19th century British referred to it as one of the "worst places in the world". The city was officially renamed to Kolkata in 2001. It is a very active city ridden with beggars, thieves and filth, which shocks most of the Joestar Group. Jean Pierre Polnareff encounters Hol Horse and J. Geil there.
